Hello steemians,
Starting with a big thank you to professor @sapwood who always pushes us to discover many concepts that we use without knowing their mechanism, I really found it very fun to answer his five questions because I learned so much from it , so enjoy reading and feel free to leave me comments if you have any questions.
Introduction:
Before I begin my answers to the questions, I would like to mention that after the Steem Hardfork 21 event, the blockchain steem is now using a proof-of-brain algorithm as a reward process that is split equally between author and curator, meaning 50% for each. After it was distributed by 75% for the author and 25% for the curator.
And if the author’s share is clear in its distribution (full 50% of post-paid payments), the distribution of curators ’shares is somewhat complicated, so he must follow an appropriate strategy for his voting, to get 100% of the value of the positive vote or perhaps more if the publications become popular and attracted the community attention.
(1) What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain?
As we said before a curator must have a voting strategy but personally with that I encourage users to read the articles and vote only for good content for the quality of our dear blog, but still we must know when we vote to have the full rewards.
As we see in the figure below, it is not necessary to vote between 0 min and 5 min of the article age (called the reverse auction window period) in which the curator can lose part of his curation reward which varies linearly from 0 to 5 minutes as follows:
If a curator vote at first min of the share of the post, then he will receive 20% of his curation reward(means effectively he will give up 90% curation reward as opposed to total curation)
If he vote at second min of the share of the post, then he will receive 80% of his curation reward.
And so on....
Also if a curator votes after 6 days 12 hours of sharing an article, he risks losing a percentage of the vote which starts to regress following a linear curve downwards until reaching 0% on the seventh day since the vote positive runs out during this time.
(2) How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain?
For each post we can check the amount returned to the reward pool after the 7 days of voting in Steem Blockchain, For that follow the following procedure:
- After opening your browser, type the site address https://steemworld.org/
- Enter the curator's nickname in the switch account area
- Access the Post section
- Choose a post and in the Finished-->Summary tabs you find Payout return
In our example, I returned $ 0.271 to the reward pool which represents 0.98% of the total reward.
(3) Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?
As explained, it is possible to earn 100% of the value of the upvote as a curation reward by voting outside of the reverse auction window or before the 6 days and 12 hours of the post publication. But you can earn more than 100% especially if the post catches the attention of the whales in the community and receives higher earnings.
We can explain this through the following practical example:
We have a curation reward formula : Pcurator= (1/2) *√PT (√P1-√P0)Δt
With :
PT= Total Post Payout
P0= Post Payout before voting
P1= Post Payout after voting
Δt=1 (t>=5min)
Take the case:
P0 = 0, P1 = $ 2 and PT= $ 100
The first curator voted $ 2 directly after the 5min, applying the previous formula, he earns after 7 days $ 7.05 (352% of upvote value as curation rewards)
Pcurator = (1/2) * √ $ 100 (√ $ 2-√ $ 0) = 0.5 * 10 * 1.41 = $ 7.05
(4) Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward?
Using steemworld, you can consult the list of upcoming curation rewards, i.e. the posts we have voted on, in the Coming reward section, we access the Curation rewards tab:
I randomly chose the post of the author @stream4 that I voted after 29m 45s of its publication:
In which I was the 16th to vote with a 100% upvote value :
The projected curation reward :
The vote values serially until 15th position-- P0= $0.57
P1= 0.57+0.42= 0.99
PT= $295.68
Pcurateur = (1/2) * √ 295.68 $ (√ 0.99-√ 0.57 $) = 2.06
So that's (2.06/0.42)*100= 491% of the upvote value as curation reward.
(5) What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?
We all know by now that creating original and high-quality content is the best way to grow on the platform and make yourself known and recognized by providing value to the Steemit community.
Unlike the centralized platforms where the moderators control the content, Steemit users play a role in rating and rewarding the content. For this purpose, Steem blockchain has adopted the Proof-of-Brain (PoB) algorithm as a content reward mechanism that offers a set of rewards that follow an inflationary model that allows content creators and curators to be pushed by providing a voting system that somehow directs users toward good content and thus determines the value of that content. Through voting, the content that should not be voted on is abandoned, so that spam, plagiarism, or any other material harmful to society can be checked.
