Professor @sapwood talked about Proof of Brain, Voting Window and Curation in the 5th week course. I am answering the professor's questions.

(1) What will happen if you vote before "5 mins age of a post" & after "6 days 12 hrs age of post" in Steem Blockchain? (Include your own experiences/Examples)

On the Steem blockchain, the wisdom of the crowd has been relied upon for the authors to get a share of the prize pool. These people, whom we can call curators, need some time to determine the quality and originality of a content. This corresponds to an average of 5-6 minutes.

Certain limitations (such as a certain amount of deprivation from the prize pool) have been imposed in order to develop conscious curators. For example, if you vote positively the moment a piece of content is published, the entire improvement reward will remain in the prize pool. Even if you are a whale, you cannot get a positive vote. If you vote positively in the 1st minute, the curator receives 20%, remaining in the 80% prize pool. If you vote positively in the 2nd minute, your curator reward will increase. (40% -60%). If you vote positively in the 3rd minute, your curator reward will increase a little more. (60% -40%). If you vote positively in the 4th minute, your reward will increase a little more. (80% -20%). If you vote positively in the 5th minute, you will earn 100% of the entire curatorship award. During your upvote in the early minutes, any rewards you missed remain in the prize pool.

In some cases, even if you vote in the 3rd or 4th minute, you can earn more than 100% healing rewards. If you become one of the first to vote and vote for posts that will enter the train.

In the post shown in the picture, kevinwong won a 174% additional improvement award despite voting in 3 minutes 15 seconds. There are a lot of people who voted from him, but all of them have a very low vote value.

In the post shown in the picture, kevinwong received a 146% additional improvement award despite voting at 2 minutes 51 seconds. There are a lot of people who voted from him, but all of them have a very low vote value. Kevinwong felt that this post was going to be voted on by the whales, and by voting early, he was able to win additional healing awards.

If we vote for posts older than 6 days and 12 hours, we win a curator award. However, the positive vote value gradually decreases towards a certain rate and resets on the 7th day. Voting for posts longer than 7 days has no value.

(2) How do I check how much reward of a post has returned to the reward pool in Steem Blockchain? Include screenshots (Hint- Steemworld.org)

There are tools developed to control it. https://steemworld.org/ will allow us to check this.
Let's look at https://steemworld.org/@oldstone.

By following the steps I've marked, we can see how much reward a post goes back to the prize pool on the Steem Blockchain.
Here, 50% of the distribution was made to the author, while 44.78 was distributed to the curators. $ 15,809 (5.22%) remained in the prize pool.

(3) Under what circumstances a curator can earn more than 100% upvote value as curation rewards?

In order for a curator to win a 100% curation prize, they must definitely vote for the post before 6 days and 12 hours.
If it will be one of the posts for the whales to vote, it will earn more than 100% curation prize for votes cast less than 5 minutes ago. In this case, there is a situation that needs attention. He should act earlier than other curators. It must compete with them. In some cases, curators earn additional improvement awards for winning the competition despite losing a 40% discount.

Kevinwong voted for the post shown in the picture in 1 minute and 54 seconds. We know that he lost 60% curation prize due to the reverse auction. But because it is a post voted by the whale and it wins competition with other curators, it earns a 118% additional improvement award.

Kevinwong upvote value = $ 1.87

Projected curation reward = 4.942 SP = 4.942 * 0.45 = $ 2.22

2.22 / 1.87*100 = 118%

Kevinwong wins a higher curation award than his upvote value. Additional improvement reward 118%

(4) Pick any random post you have voted in Steem Blockchain and indicate the time and position of your voting, what is the projected curation reward? (Include relevant Screenshots) (Hint- Steemworld.org)

Pcurator= (1/2) * (√PT) * (√P1-√P0) Δt
PT= Post Payout at the end of 7 days
P0= Post Payout before voting
P1= Post Payout after voting

Voting position= 1
Voting timing: 10m 03s
Upvote value: 0.01$

P0= 0
P1= $0.01
PT= $7.53
Δt = 1

Pme = (1/2) * (√7.53) * (√0.01-√0) *1
Pme = 0.00495$

Additional improvement reward = 0.00495/ 0.01*100 = 49%

(5) What is the role of curation in better content discovery in Steem Blockchain?

Curators usually have very high voting values. The more they vote on a post, the more that post stands out. The curator must be very careful about this, as the post will stand out. It should do a thorough research on whether it is informative, good content, useful or original. If he is not good enough, he should not vote, even if he knows that he will receive a good curation award. Or, it should give a low rate of votes.

Curators should not just vote. It should comment on the posts and motivate the authors to produce better quality content.

The curator should resteem the posts he likes too much. Thus, quality content reaches many people.

Authors get paid when people like you upvote their post.

Thank you for attending the lecture in Steemit-Crypto-Academy & doing the homework task-5.

In the post shown in the picture, kevinwong won a 174% additional improvement award despite voting in 3 minutes 15 seconds. There are a lot of people who voted from him, but all of them have a very low vote value.

That's correct. Being in the first voter(s) band is key to earn significant curation reward. Smart curators chose to vote at 4 mins or so, in doing so they give up 20% of their curation reward, but the advantage they get for being in the first voter(s) band ($0-$) win them much more than what they lose on account of reverse auction.

Social intersection, engagement is key to better content discovery. The interconnected web can only be possible with better engagement activities.

Thank you.
