What Is Coinmarketcap.com?

Coinmarketcap.com is a platform where information related to cryptocurrency and about cryptocurrency can be found.
It has over thousands of exchanges and cryptocurrency assets listed on the platform as the name suggests.

The site is a free to use site available to users in any country as long as you have internet connection.
It has special features that a user can access to keep himself informed about his assets.such as the the cryptocurrency's or platform's white paper,web explorers and also web links.

Coinmarket.com was founded by a man named Brandon Chiz in the year 2013.
It is located in Dover,Delaware.
One can confidently say that coinmarketcap has grown to be one of the most recognized and most utilized tool for keeping track of one's cryptocurrency asset.

The site contains vital information which are update when and where necessary for use by its customers.
It also has applications for both android and iOS devices.

In 2020 one of the most used and trusted exchange platform, binance announced that it had bought coinmarketcap.
This further proved how trusted the platform was for the leading exchange platform to show interest in it.
Even though binance announced the acquisition of coinmarketcap it is worth noting that it is an independent entity that is not affected or controlled by binance.

The stakeholders of coinmarket cap are different and independent from that of binance.
But it is still and now owned by Binance.

Coinmarketcap is a well known platform and used by so many people in the cryptocurrency world.
This shows how important people regard it and how useful it has been to traders.

Price: Coinmarketcap.com helps traders by providing the price of cryptocurrency assets.As the value changes during the day coinmarketcap.com is able to get the relevant data to make the required changes to make it easier for traders to know the accurate price of an asset at a particular time of the day.

Portfolio: coinmarketcap also has a column where a user can create his own portfolio for keeping track of his cryptocurrency assets.
The user is able to choose and pick assets and also enter the value at which they hold the asset.
The platform calculates its total value for when you are in loss and when you are in profit so that the user is well informed.

:Watchlist: Coinmarketcap.com also has a column where a user can easily prioritize coins that he wants to always know about by creating a different list for only those coins.
This is most useful because the platform has over thousands of assets listed on it so it will be difficult for a user to look for the asset he is looking for.

Search tab: The platform also makes it easy for users to be able to access information they are looking for by providing the search button so that you can easily get what you are looking for.
Imagine I am looking for a coin which is not listed in the top 1000 coins, scrolling down will be quite difficult so I can just use the search button to get it.

From its pricing, the volume and also the site where they can be collected.

Newsletter: when you click on this option it takes you to a different tab where a user is provided with updates or news around the cryptocurrency world.

Coinmarketcap.com has thounsands of cryptocurrencies listed on the platform.
And for each crypto asset the platform has a variety of information about the asset.
For my assignment, I will be talking about the cryptocurrency Tether(USDT)

Overview
This feature helps show the USDT chart under the sub heading of price,market cap and trading view.
Under this particular information, a user is also provided with furher information where a user can make analysis pertaining to the performance of the coin in 1D,7D,1M and further more.

This feature helps provide a user about where the cryptocurrency can be traded on exchanges.It provides information about which of the excahnges trades it in large or small quantities or volumes.
Under this feature a user can also see the different options for which USDT can be traded.
And also the fiat options a user can use when trading the USDT.

I consider this feature to be a very important one as it provides users with vital information about the past history of USDT.
It provides information about how high or low the price of USDT has gone to, when the price reached that and for how long it stayed there.
This information helps a user to make decisions about how best he can enter the market.

This feature informs the user about the number of people or addresses that are currendtly holding thw coin(USDT).

Wallets
This feature informs the user about the wallet he can keep or hold the coin(USDT).
The user is informed about the wallet choice to store your USDT in a particular wallet.

On the coinmarketcap.com platform there are a total of 8 core features with some of the core features having related sub-core features.
Now I will look to explore some of this core and sub features below.

Exchanges

The exchange feature is one of the core feature of the platform.
The exchange feature is responsible for showing a user the exhange platforms a user can buy or sell the coin he is interested in.
Under the exchange feature consists other sub-features which are spot,derivatives**, DEX and where to buy.
Now lets look at its sub-features.

The spot feature is a sub-feature under the exchanges feature.
The spot is exhanging one crypto for another. An example is exchanging one btc for eth or exchaing steem for btc.
Coinmarketcap.com scores exchanges based on the traffic it produces, liquidity, trading volumes of the coin.

Derivatives
The platform provides users with information about platforms that have derivatives trading.

DEX
The platform also provides users with information about decentralized platforms that provide dex trading.

Cryptocurrencies

This feature consists of 7 different sub-features under it.
It provides information based on the global crypto market.
The cryptocurrency feature provides users with the coins that re listed on the platform and when they are clicked information about the crypto asset.
Now lets look at some of its sub-features.

In this feature they provide information on how crytocurrencies are ranked based on thier market cap.
eg; On coinmarket cap btc has a ranking of 1 because it has the larget market cap.

This feature helps informs users about coins which have been added recently in the coinmarket cap platform.

Legal tender countries
This feature helps informs users about the list or number of countries that have accepted cryptocurrencies legally.

spotlight
This feature shows the coins that are making waves in the cryto market.
This can be regarded as top performing coins which biggest gainers,biggest losers,most visited and more.

Watchlist

This feature helps users to be able to create their own cryptocurrency list and monitor it easily.
When we create our own watchlist we are able to put notifications on the coins and then we are notified when there is a price drop or price spike in the price of the crypto asset.
It aslo informs us about the percentage drop or percentage rise in the price of the asset.

This is a core feature that helps users by providing them with tools such as swap,convertor and mobile app.
Now lets look at some of this sub-fetaures.

This tool is used by traders to know the equivalent of a crypto to crypto.
for instance when you want to know the amount of eth you will get when you convert 1 btc.
The convertor tool is very useful in this instance.

It is alwyas convenient to have a mobile app for a site that is used by a wide range of people .
Coinmarketcap.com has a mobile app for both android and ios users.
This mobile app has a wide range of languages that is available for countries.

As the name suggests the calendar feature helps users by informing them about upcoming events, ongoing and also just ended events.
Now I will talk about some of its sub-features.

As the name suggests, this feature is a calendar of events that has all events listed with its dates on it.

This is for your self-research and studies, How or when Coinmarketcap.com decides to list a Coin?

The process of listing a coin in the Coinmarketcap deals with some steps or techniques that they follow. These are the principles that are followed.

1. The process begins with an online procedure where the crypto coin is expected to ensure everything is put in order to begin the process.

• The application information which is given out must be the actual thing and can also be verified because it is important.
• The application should also have in it a well mannered information and should be the truth and not a false information.

1. The principle must be showed by the crypto asset for the listing

• A consensus algorithm and a leverage cryptography must be showed.
• A peer-to-peer technology is also required when making transactions.
• An active website or blockchain explorer must be part of the crypto coin.
• DApps must be compatible with smart contracts.
• The crypto coin must be traded publicly on one of the exchanges which are present in the website or platform.
• A way or means of communication is needed to make communication between Coinmarketcap and the developers easy.

1. Coinmarketcap now tend to make checks of the information or data that has been given out to know the next move.

• The trading volume and the pairs of crypto coins is checked on.
• The level of trust of the Developers of the crypto coin.
• The duration of the Project of the crypto coin staying in the market.

1. The listing on the Coinmarketcap then begins at this state. There are various types of Listening in the Coinmarketcap which I will explain below

• Inactive Listing: This process seeks to to involve projects that are not actively been traded on any exchange listed on the Coinmarketcap. This is to say they are no longer been traded on any exchange present on the Coinmarketcap.

• Unverified Listing: This process involves projects that have not been verified by Coinmarketcap. But when a searched is made on them it appears. That is they are not verified but when they are searched for their prices surfaced.

• Untracked Listing: This process involves projects that are not in accordance with the principles laid down by the Coinmarketcap which are listed above but have showed some strength in the process of checking.

• Tracking Listing: This process involves projects that satisfies all the principles and also the checking out of the process.

This is for your self-research and studies, How or when Coinmarketcap.com decides to list Exchange?

When we take our look at the procedure involved in the Listing of the Exchanges in the Coinmarketcap, it is kind of similar to that of the Coin listing process just that there are some differences in the process which I am going to talk on.

• The Exchange should be active for at least a period of six good days.

• The Exchange must have a working website and also a trading volume and API data.

• The exchange should be very transparent in order to be clear to users so that data such as pairs of coins and order books in the exchange.

• A communication medium is required between the exchange developers and that of the Coinmarketcap.

• The price should be showed by the publishing of an API endpoint for the last 24 hours.

• An opportunity should be given to traders to place orders in the order book in the situation where it is a centralized exchange.

What is the purpose of the Uniswap feature on the Coinmarketcap.com site and how a trader can use it?

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange platform that gives its users an opportunity to make direct swap of the ERC-20 tokens.
This swaps are done without the involvement of third parties that means the transactions happen between the user and the exchange.
Coinmarketcap.com list uniswap on its platform to give its users the opportunity to make this swaps.

Now let me show you how to use the uniswap.

To access the uniswap you will need to follow this few steps.

a) When you open coinmarketcap.com on google, at the down right corner you will see a blue shaped button with swap written on it.

b) After opening the tab, click on connect wallet to create a connection.

c)A list of wallet will show up, choose the one you want and then seelct the one you want.

d) For me I will be connecting to the metamask wallet.

e) After selecting metamask, you can now make the swap.
For my case I am swapping eth for chainlink.

f) After swapping the assets, it shows that I dont have enough balance to complete this swap.

What is Blockchain Explorer? What Information available under Blockchain Explorer? How many Blockchain Explorer available on Coinmarketcap.com & How it helps users?

The blockchain explorer.

The blockchain explorer is a software that makes use of nodes in the blockchain.
It works by collecting or gathering data from the blockchain.
After collecting this data, it then uses it to arrange the data.
When it collects and arranges the data it presents it to the user who is looking for the information.
To access the blockchain explorer on coinmarketcap.com you can see it in the core feature of the products tap and under it in the sub-features tab you will see it.

Information under blockchain explorer

The information listed under blockchain explorer include the following below:

• The price of the cryptocurrency asset.
• The transaction volume of the cryptocurrency asset.
  *The latest block
  *The transaction value
• The hash rate.

And a few more.

For the purpose of this assignment I will be
exploring binance coin.

a) Click on binance coin from the list of blockchain explorers.

b) After clicking on the binance coin option and opening the window.

From the top close to the price you can see three dot close to it.

When you click on it you will be able to see view blocks, view transactions and view marker data.

c) After I clicked on the view block option the see the block height, the address and also the initiated transaction.

d) From the view transactions option you can also see the detail of current transactions made.
And also the date and time, and also the fees of transactions.

CONCLUSION.

Sincerely from the day this lecture was posted I was attracted to the course study.

I was particularly interested in it because I use coinmarketcap a lot since the day I registered on steemit.
It has thought me a lot from how to to convert my cryptocurrency and how to use particular exchanges.
I particularly like the watchlist aspect where you can choose your favourite coins and follow them very easily.

The coinmarketcap platform is very user friendly platform where it makes it very easy for its users to access and understand the platform.
Using the platform is very easy.
It also teaches new users who are not well vested in the world of cryptocurrency to get well equipped with cryptocurrency.
