This is my participation in a contest Steem blockchain age organized in SteemitCryptoAcademy in @crypto-academy.
This is a best contest which will help steemian here to know about the Blockchain technology. They will understand how does block function and is meant by genesis Blockchain. As Steemit as an old crypto website, so here we will find it exact age too. So let's move toward our concern business.

Genesis is the first block ever of any Blockchain. Now let us try to understand this phenomena through the lens of Steemit. Steemit was first launched back on 23rd March 2016. Wow! this is great to here that news we are having 7 years completed in this field. So the first ever made block of Steemit is called it's genesis. Now all other new block are attached to this block like a chain. In the form of chain it exists and it still continue.
You have to keep in mind that these block are very important for Steemit, not only Steemit but to all other blockchains too. On all blockchains thier all data are permanently stored in their blocks that they produced. The genesis is said to be the first made block ever, so all the new coming block attach to it in the form of chain. In Blockchain only the genesis is unattached to any other previous existing block as it is the first ever made. Then all the other new block comes and join it.Genesis block is also called the 1st block of the blockchain.
Let me show you the genesis of Steemit
Finding the genesis of Steemit is to much easy process. We have it on steemworld. I am showing you the process with the help of screenshots.
First Step
Go and search steemworld.org on Google. You will be shown such an interface.
Second step
Click on the Block Explorer option. After clicking you will be shown the current block numbers.
Third step
Here I am going to show you the first ever block of Steemit (genesis). You can simply put one in the underline option and you will be shown all the data here. You can see it creation date **23rd march 2016, even time is shown here : 21:05:00. The block ID, Signing key, witness and many other data are shown here.
What is the last block produced? Determine the total time of the Steem blockchain, used the production date of the Genesis block and the production date of the last block. |

With the help of another website called steemy.com we can figure out the age the age of theSteemit Blockchain. You can see the last block date is 26th August 2023 (till Today's date/ 26/08/2023). It's time is 04:04:00.
Further the age of the Steemit Blockchain is also shown here in the screenshot. You can see it clearly in; minutes, hours, days and years. Still we can find it out through calculation. Let me do it for you.
One block is generated in 3sec. So we will multiple the total number of block which are 77582823.

| 232,748,469 ÷ 60 sec = 3,879,141 minutes |
| 3,879,141 ÷ 60 mints = 64,652 hours |
| 64,652 ÷ 24 hours = 2,693 days |
| 2,693 ÷ 365 days = 7.38 years, Roundoff 7.4 years |
So this is the total time of Steemit Blockchain since it's birth which is 7.4 Years.
Explain the downtime of a blockchain - why can it occur? |

Downtimes is, when a blockchain don't function properly or normally, or it is a phenomena within the Blockchain when it is not running at its optimal capacity or not running at all. It could be because of several reasons. How we can find the Blockchain is going through downtime, so you will be facing such problems in that website.
When we may experience delay in execution of transactions, the glitch in the system. It could be that the browser cannot even open, giving a person error messages. Sometimes wallet balances may not be shown or extracted from the database. All of these are various facets of downtime of a Blockchain.
Reasons why downtime occur within Blockchain
• The first reason could be the excessive traffic.
• If their is new development or advancement made with in a Blockchain. For a short time it may get down fall.
•Warehousing issues: The hardware of these Blockchain are kept in ware house, so they can be effected by any natural disaster like, flood, earthquake etc, or even robbery can happen there.
• Security & Cyber Attacks Issues can also be one of it's causes.
• Absentee of a validator can lead to downtime too. No validator will cause delay of an action, which can be regarded as a downtime too.

Yes as any other blockchain Steemit also faces downtime problems and it has faced in past too. I am just new in Steemit so I didn't see it personal, but I have done research and my research pointed me out these various problems Steemit has faced in the past. The total downtime is mentioned in the screenshot here to; it's 16 days.
Back in March 2020 Steemit faced a downfall, because of DDOS attack on the blockchain. Some hacker tried to freeze some accounts and hack them. The news spread out in the public and many users complain a technical issue.

I have my steemian friends here they say, they have faced problems several times here in their journey with Steemit. The most common were in posting, commenting or things like that.

Saludos amigo, muy buen trabajoe explicando claramente este tema.
Así es, el bloque Génesis es el inicio de todo, y a partir de él se enlazan los otros bloques formando una cadena. Ciertamente estos bloques son sumamente importantes porque en ellos se almacena todos lo datos e información.
Si amigo, en steemit se vió muchos casos de inactividad, el que menciona sobre el ataque cibernético es uno. Otros fueron el problema de las recompensas de TRX y problemas de visibilidad de imágenes y comentarios.
