Assalamualaikum everyone.
Welcome to the post. I hope that all of you will be doing well and enjoying the time with the grace and blessings of Almighty Allah. Today, I am here to be a part in the week 1 contest of our beloved SteemitCryptoAcademy community. The topic of discussion for this week is Resource Credits Vs Bandwidth. So, let's start the discussion without any wastage of time.
Bandwidth is a very important term which is used in the cryptography and the blockchain technology. In simple words, we can say that bandwidth is actually the capacity or ability of a blockchain network to manage different transactions that are carried out in that particular blockchain. In other words, we can also say that it is the bandwidth is the rate at which the data of the network can be transmitted.
Bandwidth is closely related to the concept of scalability of a network. Stability means the capacity of a network to carry out huge number of transactions at a particular time, but remember that the bandwidth is different from the scalability as it refers to the maximum amount of data or information that can be transacted on a blockchain at a given timeframe.
We can say that the bandwidth is one of the factors that affect the scalability of network but there are many other factors that can affect the scalability like the block size, number of validating nodes, and many more. Anyways, scalability is not our main topic. So, bandwidth can simply be considered as the capacity of a blockchain network to transfer or process the maximum amount of data at a time.
Bandwidth is very much important for the proper working of a blockchain network. It also plays a vital role in the security of an network and the effectiveness of a Blockchain system. The bandwidth of a network may depends on the consensus protocols which are used by that blockchain and other factors like the functionalities and infrastructure of the chain.
Resource Credits are actually the credits or something contains the digital signature which allow the users to perform their activities on the platform. These activities included the posting, commenting, voting, sending tokens (Steem/SBD), powering up the Steem tokens, etc. Each of these activities is performed by the consumption of the Resource Credits.
In simple terms, Resource Credits can be called as the network fees which is required to perform any transactions or activity on the platform. The amount of RCs utilized per activity depends on the complexity of that activity and the usage of the network resources while performing that activity. So, in this way the users are able to perform their activities on the Steem blockchain.
RCs are dependent on the Steem Power of the users on the platform. The more the Steem Power of a user, the more will be his/her Resource Credits and vice versa. These credits are utilized continuously as long as the user is performing the activities on the platform. These resource are actually introduced to ensure the reliability and validity of the platform and avoid the misuse of the features of the platform.
When a user is running out of Resource Credits them he is not able to perform the transaction on the platform. Just like, we mostly see that the new users face this problem while posting more than 2 or 3 posts per day. This is because they don't have enough SP in their wallet and thus, they don't have enough RCs to sponsor that transaction.
It is also important to mention that the Resource Credits on the Steemit platform are continuously reloading in the users account. The reloading speed and amount depends on the Steem Power of the user. The more the SP, the high will be the speed of the recovering of the RCs. I appreciate this approach of the Steemit team because in this way they encourage the users to invest in the Steem Power if they are willing to perform more and high complex activities on the platform.
On the Steem Blockchain, the Bandwidth and Resource Credits are two different things. The bandwidth actually determines the ability of the network to transfer the data over the network and it is actually the rate of transmission of the data. It is the measurement of the maximum data that can be processed and transferred per a particular timeframe.
The scalability problems were arrived when the developers came to know that there is any shoe while validating the transactions on the blockchain because the block is filled already and there is no enough space to add more data in it. So, this may cause delay in the processing of transactions. To overcome this issue, Steem Blockchain successfully introduced the system of Resource Credits in it.
On the other hand...
Resource Credits are the non-transferable credits that are allocated to the users on the platform depending upon their staking (SP) on the platform. The more the SP, the more will be the RCs allocated to that user. As I have already said that this system was introduced to overcome the issues of scalability that were caused by the lack of enough space in the blocks and difficulties in processing further data and processing transactions.
The Resource Credits are generally allocated to the users based on their SP. But, these RCs are restored over the time. It means that new credits are allocated to that user if the previous RCs have been used while doing the activities on the platform. Thanks to this system that it doesn't effect the scalability of the network because they are in the process of continuous restoration.
And this is actually the main difference between Bandwidth and RCs. Moreover, the RCs are also beneficial in the way that they can be used for the creation of new accounts on the platform for free and new users can perform the activities by utilizing RCs.
There are different tools which allow the users to check out their available Resource Credits. Some of the tools are SteemWorld , SteemOne and SteemDB. But, I will be using the SteemWorld tool for checking my available Resource Credits. So let's move on.
- First of all, open the SteemWorld website and login to the website by using your Private Posting Key. Then, from the Home Page, click on the Dashboard. This is shown in the below screenshot.
- You will be able to see your available Resource Credits from the Stats menu of the page. This is shown in the below screenshot.
From the above screenshot, you can see that I have 9,856,213,978,477 RCs at the time of making this post. This amount is actually my 100% value of RCs, according to my Steem Power.
Bandwidth is actually the ability of the network to process and validate the amount of data at a particular timeframe. It is very much important in the determination of the scalability of that network. Resource Credits are actually the non-transferable credits that are allocated to the Steem users on the basis of their staking on the platform in the form of SP. RCs are important to prevent the abuse of the activities on the platform and also to improve the scalability of the network.
I would like to invite my friends @malikusman1, @sahar78, @aaliarubab, @suboohi, @artist1111 and @simonnwigwe to be a part of this impressive contest.

Wonderful post my brother. I am delighted to read such a great post. You have discussed the points very precisely. Bandwidth and Resource Credits are both important things on Steem. RC is data required for actions and Bandwidth is related to steem power. Best wishes for you and may Allah help you in every difficulties.

Hola Steemdoctor 😊
Suerte
