From the beginning, this world has been full of deceit even during the time of Adam and Eve. This is the reason why the Almighty God is warning all His people to beware of being guarantors for people who wouldn't keep their promises. Some individuals have lost all their life savings in the light of the fact that they stood as surety for people who failed in repaying bank loans.

Proverbs 20:25 let us know that the folly of enquiring already vowing. That action can have spiritual consequences; Romans 13:8 warns that we shouldn't owe anyone anything except love.

The Lord is warning us through Proverbs 6:1-5 to avoid standing a guarantor to those we don't know very well, unbelievers in general and especially irregular or inconsistent Christian in the Church. This is due to the fact that such people could turn out to be heartless enemies when they start to default. Marriage vows are even more important, and as Christians, we must honor them.

There are a lot of wolves in sheep's clothing in the midst of brethren – pretenders who take naive souls to the altar with lies just to unleash evil on the spiritual lives of their victims. You must be very careful and take today's warning seriously.

If you are among the hypocrite in the Church, you must make sure you repent, before the judgment of the Lord comes upon you. As a young fellow getting ready for marriage, keep your eyes open to getting to really know your potential husband or wife very well. Don't forget that marriage is for better and for worse and you shouldn't make a vow at all than to make one and then be looking for a way to cancel it. Be careful of assumptive love affairs and love at first sight.

Take your time to know your potential spouse's life and the background of the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. As Christian, our trustworthiness must never be questionable, so before you embark on anything, always exercise due diligence and seek the Lord's direction.
