Proverbs 16:32 (CJB)
He who controls his temper is better than a war hero, he who rules his spirit better than he who captures a city.
Anger is said to be a warlike or hostile disposition in attitude or nature expressed from one person to the other.
It could be said to be an emotional expression of displeasure as a result of an event or activity which could be verbal or expressed.
The king James version says that "he who is slow to anger"... this implies that one can not say that anger can be removed from life's picture, but the non affinity to it makes the man better than the strong.
Anger is a mind or temperamental problem which out-rightly expresses the level of emotional intelligence of the person(s) involved.
Most people reacts to issues with a negative emotion because they have been taken for granted for so long. However,as a believer in Christ Jesus, God expects us to renew our mind and perceptions to reflect the mind that was in Christ Jesus such that He always forgave instead of harboring offenses. imagine Jesus healing and restoring the ear of the man of whom Peter cut trying to stall the arrest at Gethsemane.
Emotional intelligence entails us as believers always seeing things from the stand point of people that are offending us.
Anger is a tool in the hand of the devil when not handled properly. By anger so many homes has been dissolved, resulting in divorce, children getting a skewed perception of life; some even ending up in foster care.
Anger has lead to breakouts from religions and religious denomination and has even promoted wars.
The demonstration of anger which leads to sin, to a believer in Christ Jesus is a sign of crucifixion of the flesh and a manifestation of the absence of the fruit of the spirit.
Gal. 5:19-20 AMP:
Now the doings (practices) of the flesh are clear (obvious): they are immorality, impurity, indecency,Idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, anger (ill temper), selfishness, divisions (dissensions), party spirit (factions, sects with peculiar opinions, heresies),Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
So, anger is the fruit of the flesh.
So also, the level of restraint to anger is a clear demonstration of being dead to flesh and alive to Christ.
Gal. 5:22 AMP:
But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge]. And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires. If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]
Let us not give occasion to the devil as believers by way of anger, but let us rather spend time in the presence of God and yield more to the leading of the Holy Spirit who is the chief teacher in Emotional Intelligence so that we will always have peace of mind.
God bless you!
