Jehovah hear you in the day of conflict; the name of the God of Jacob defend you.” Psalm 20: 1.
There are days more difficult than others, there are times when the devil himself seems to have concentrated all his attacks on us, our family, work, church, even using people we least imagine. David calls it the day of "conflict." This word in Hebrew is tsara which means "plight, problem, affliction, anguish, calamity, tribulation, attack from a rival."
The days of conflict come to all of us, sometimes unexpectedly, other times we see them coming. However, if we have a heart like David's, we will know how to turn to the Lord, the only one who “defends” us. Another interesting word.

In Hebrew it is sagáb which means “to be elevated, inaccessible, secure, strong; exalt, exalt, exalt, lift.” wow! Does all that God does when he defends us? It is much more than taking charge of the conflict, the Lord puts us on high, in Him we are safe and his name is exalted. Hallelujah! It is amazing how God transforms a day of conflict into a day of victory and celebration. What could destroy us God uses so that we grow, we know him more and we have more reasons to give thanks and praise him. Please, he takes a few more minutes and reads the whole Psalm.
It seems that David himself is praying for us. He asks God to send us help (v. 20), fulfill the desires of our hearts (v. 4), rejoice in his salvation, and grant all our requests (v. 5). If your heart is connected with God's, then all your desires will be the same as his and you will see answers to your requests because they will be in accordance with his will. Also, in v. 8 we see that there is a great difference between those who trust in God and those who only trust in their own resources. When they stumble, they can't get up. But the one who is sustained by the mighty hand of God, he always rises! "
They falter and fall, but we get up, and we stand."
God tells us in the cited verses that with all security we can trust in his forgiveness and in his great support to start over each day forgetting the past but of course having obtained a learning from it, and he promises to put rivers in the desert that we could spend in this world, laughs to be satiated with its peace and in the midst of that peace receive new and superior things that perhaps we could not consolidate before.
In this new year we have the opportunity to do something beautiful and different that honors God but also bless our neighbors. It is time for opportunities, it is time to love.
Blessed be God our Helper!
