How long has it been since your mind felt at ease?
How long since your heart knew no burden?
Can you call him your friend?
How long has it been since you knew that he cared for you?
How long has it been since you knelt by your bed
And prayed to the Lord up in heaven?
How long since you knew that he'd answer you
And would keep you the long night through?

Because of life's plentiful snares/problems and how busy we get everyday with work, school and our daily lives, it's easier to forget about God as we progress in life.
Sometimes it's good to reflect on your relationship with God when things were bad, when you thought you needed Him.
You stayed up all night, right? You told Him everything that came to mind, you worshipped with all gladness; your relationship with God was good.
But can you say same about your relationship with God right now?
As believers of the Word and constant readers of the bible, I'm sure you'll all side with me how similar we are to the Israelites in the bible in everything we do.
The Israelites only remembered that they had a God only when they found themselves in great trouble or tribulations, then they would cry unto the Lord. And God being a merciful God would also listen to them all the time.
This is exactly what we are also doing.
Jim Reeves(whom I so much cherish) is trying to tell us to ask ourselves "How long has it been?"
Aside the first scenario, there's the situation when we forget God gradually as time goes on.
There might have been times when you thanked God for His mercies and for His protection. Well, how long has it been since you did that?
We've joined the others into thinking everything comes out of it's own will and that sleeping and walking up is a normal thing. We no more regard the fact that God is the one who's controlling everything on this earth.
How long has it been since you woke with the dawn
And felt this day is worth living?
Do you feel this way anymore or you now think everything happens by chance?
It's never too late.. it's not too late to be friends with God again. It's not late to be like how you were when God at first.
Just as how He warmly welcomed the Israelites anytime they realised their folly , He will do same with us.
Try to go back to God, have time for His word and work and He will also have time for you.
