Sometimes it’s Opposite Day: When things flow counter to what you might expect. This was the case today when we searched “all trails” for a lightly trafficked trail in Sedona.
What we found first was a full parking lot. Still hopeful, We managed to park across the street and began our hike from there. Sedona was chaotic. 6 helicopters and 5 small airplanes flew overhead. We encountered 16 masked people on the trail - all with fairly frantic energy.
“Let’s try a new place!” we decided after that experience and drove back through tons of traffic toward Flagstaff. Still craving sunshine and nature, we pulled off at a scenic viewpoint - parked in an empty parking lot and hiked a little ways out to the most spectacular setting. This one was densely forested, at the edge of the cliff we sat and meditated in supreme silence. A beautiful bird with a giant wingspan circled over our heads and a mini version of them also followed. Then, out of nowhere - a ( human) voice called out - but it was unintelligible since they were speaking behind a mask. From a great distance, they removed their mask and told us the site was closing. So we left but then found one last magical spot on the way home- totally empty parking lot ( Griffith springs) and a trail loop. Since the sun was setting we just bounded toward it - and then stumbled upon a beautiful flat rock where we decided to sit. Lone behold, there was the most stunning crystal we had ever seen, sparkling in the late evening sun. We held it and made good wishes. Aho.
