Let look at the meaning of growth: it is an increase in the size, number, value or strength of living things. it’s an important aspect of man’s life. A Christian is a spiritual living being because he has been quickened by Christ from dead works and unrighteousness.
A born again man or woman has Christian virtues imparted to him by Christ consequently, he or she is expected to grow, increase and abound in it.
According to dictionary definition, a virtue is a habitual and firm disposition to do what is right and good. Christian virtues are admirable moral conduct or behaviour found in a genuinely converted believer. Christians are expected to grow in virtues and grace.
The second epistle of peter was written to “them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (2peter 1:1). This implies that the recipients of this epistle were saved, to the end, peter wrote to them to “…add to your [their] faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge…” he exhorted them to grow in their faith so that they can be fruitful in the lord.
He did not only exhort them to grow, he also prayed for them that “Grace and peace be multiplied…”(verse 2) SAVING GRACE AVAILABLE TO ALL SINNERS, Simon peter was a servant and epistle of Jesus Christ, he was also not a servant of sin and of Satan because he was saved and had obtained “like precious faith”.
Salvation is the gracious work of God through which a sinner receives pardon and forgiveness of sins and is now made a saint in Christ Jesus. Salvation removes the wall of barrier that exists between God and man.
Grace can be simply defined as God’s riches, righteousness or redemption made available at Christ expense. We do not merit salvation. Jesus paid it on the cross and we can obtain it through faith after we have acknowledged our sinfulness.
to grow in faith and in the lord Jesus Christ, as a Christian you must first, desire, read, meditate and obey the word of God, secondly, he should maintain a regular and fervent prayer life, thirdly, he should a regular quite time, fourthly, he should always be in fellowship with the people of like precious faith. Fiftly, he should be involved in soul winning.
