1 Chronicles 4:9(NIV)
Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.”
Little or nothing is known about the man Jabez He appears to be a man whose family was not mentioned in Israel's history. But if Jabez and his family's memories were erased, why is he mentioned at all?
There are three things I am looking at Jabez background.
Jabez knew that his father's house was of no consequence.
Jabez knew the circumstance that surrounded his birth.
Jabez knew that if he must be somebody of note, he has to look up to God hence his prayer.
1 Chronicles 4:10(NIV)
Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request.
It takes a man who acknowledges the almightiness of Jehovah and implicit faith in Him. His love and care to not only pray to him but crying unto him.
Jabez believed that for his DESTINY to receive a turn around for good, a change to the pain synonymous with his name, God has to be involved.
.......And Jabez cried unto the LORD.
these are his requests:
That God would bless him.
That God would enlarge his territory.
That God would Let His hand be with him, and keep him from harm so that He will be free from pain.
And God granted his request.
As God was in the days of Jabez, so he is still today. Doing great and might works for all of them that put their trust in him.
God still answers prayers folks.
Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory. Psalms 50:15(NLT)
That doesn't mean that God will give you whatever you want or ask for. There was a book written called the Prayer of Jabez and it was unbiblical. We should all spend more time thinking about what we can do for God and less time thinking what God can do for us.
