They always say the more you believe in science the less you believe in God because science doesn't believe in God's existence. But for many years now this has been the opposite for me as science has only made me realize how incredible God is and His works.
As long as you are not abusing drugs, I don't see taking medication for an illness as a sin while still asking God for healing at the same time. All knowledge comes from God and I believe He gave this knowledge to those in the science field to be able to produce drugs for different ailments.
Understand that God isn't rigid and He can choose whichever way he deems fit to heal someone. While yours might be instant healing through laying of hands by a pastor, others could be through drugs which God himself gave humans the wisdom to produce in d first place.
It could even be both ways. You can pray over your medications and ask God to heal you through them.
If I may share my personal experience:
There was a time I was sick for about 2weeks. And even though I was taking medications nothing just seemed to work. I had even been praying about it yet nothing. But one day, I attended the evening service in my local church and during the worship session I became engrossed and worshipped like never before and when the session was over, I noticed I was feeling much better than when I had arrived. That was the end of that sickness.
Healing is really diverse and God indeed works in mysterious ways. It doesn't matter what vessel He is using, what matters most is that He does His work in our lives.
If after a person takes medication or asks God for healing yet they still do not get healed or probably die from such sickness, then we have to trust God and leave it in His hands because He alone knows everything.
So for me, when people say taking medications when they are sick is a sin, it sounds like they are saying it is a sin to go to medical school in the first place.
Does the bible not state that god gave the herb of the earth as medicine (or something along those lines)? Science is great but in my opinion no replacement for natural healing. Look at how other cultures used plants and herbs for healing.

I stated that healing is diverse which doesn't categorically say that medications have replaced healing from God but that God can heal us through several ways.
Secondly, what do you think are used to make most medications? Isn't it the same herbs and plants you mentioned?
And if herbs and plants are not used to make a drug, whatever was used to make it, isn't God the maker of that thing?
Generally speaking, God is the HEALER and MAKER of all things in this world.
