"As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue" (2 Peter 1:3).
Life is very complex. Life has many needs. Can you think about all the things you need to make your life both spiritually and physically complete?
Think of it; you need wisdom, knowledge, health, strength, favor, joy, talents, relationships, money, food, clothing, shelter and so much more. We need a lot of things in this life. So what does God do about all the things we need in life?
Our passage for today tells us that God has given to us all things that relate to our lives – spiritually and naturally.
How did He give us all the things that we need in this life? The passage says He gave them to us by His divine power.
There is a divine power of God constantly at work to give us everything we need to make life possible. God is constantly and supernaturally working to make our lives livable. He doesn’t want us to be miserable. That’s good news.
So why aren’t we having all things that pertain to life and godliness? Why don’t we have all the things we need to make our lives livable? The passage answers that.
God gives us all things ‘through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue’. This is just like what we learnt about how grace and peace is multiplied. God gives us all things we need through the knowledge of Him.
It is therefore clear from the scriptures that not having an accurate knowledge of God is very expensive. It limits the extent of God’s grace in our lives. It limits our access to all the things we need to make life livable.
