THE LORD CARES FOR ME

"When my father and my mother forsake me, Then the Lord will take care of me" (Psalm 27:10).

This is the assurance of the psalmist. He has celebrated the victory of the Lord. Now, he tells us about his confidence in the Lord. We see the mindset of the victorious. In verses 7, 8 and 9 he goes back in time to show us how he prayed when the wicked rose against him. Now in verse 10, he tells us his deep and unfailing trust in the Lord.

Whom do you trust to always be there for you? Do you have a backbone that you can rely on at all times? David said his trust was totally in the Lord. Naturally, our parents are the people we trust to be there for us at all times. They are the ones whom God used to bring us into the world. That is the natural expectation.

David is the one who God inspired to write this psalm. His parents stood with him through his most difficult moments. He understood the strength of having loved ones by his side. Yet, he also understood the limitations of having confidence in any human being. Sometimes, even the most dependable people may not be there for us. David says, if that should ever happen, I know one who will never forsake me.

Don’t equate people forsaking you with God forsaking you. When friends leave you, it does not mean God has left you. When family members fight you, it does not mean God is fighting you. When trusted people turn against you, don’t see it as God turning against you. The world can turn against you but God’s care for you doesn’t change.

It is natural to have people forsake you when you’re under attack. When that happens, guard your heart from bitterness and discouragement. Seek the Lord. Seek the beauty and guidance of the Lord. His love for you will never fail. He cares for you.

Don’t let men be your backbone. They can forsake you at the most difficult moment. And if you’ve ever been forsaken by people you trusted, refuse to be bitter or angry. Yes, they may have left you, but be strengthened by the fact that God stayed.
