Neither salvation nor forgiveness must be earned; both must be freely given. Just as God has granted us forgiveness, which we did not deserve, so we ourselves must free every offender from every form of punishment.

Certain dictionaries define the term gift as something that is given for a friendship, in affection and support. Using this definition, it seems logical to give gifts only to those we love, not to those who treat us badly. The Bible evidently commands us to offer one of the most enormous gifts is to forgive those who wrong us on a daily basis.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 RVR 1960

Forgiveness means to forsake or claim punishment for an offense. And this, without conditions, for it would cease to be an apology. Ephesians 2:8-9 expands on this criterion by contrasting the gift of salvation with works. Unforgiveness is an emotional bondage that consumes the mind with the memory of offenses, corrupts the feelings with revenge, and fills the heart with worry. Its tentacles reach into the depths of the soul, damaging both spiritual and physical health.

However, whoever chooses to offer love and forgiveness is ready to receive the well-being of Christ. Let God's term help you to place your angers and hurts in his loving hands, and then see how thoughts of revenge turn to praise, peace and gratitude to God.

Reconcilably, the gift of forgiveness is not something we have to do ourselves. This gift is wrapped in God's love and tied with a red ribbon of Christ's sacrifice on the cross. It is given to us freely by the Savior, and our mission is simply to give it to others forever. So that one day when he comes he will find us with a clean heart before his presence.

Ni la salvación ni el perdón, tienen que ganarse; los dos tienen que darse gratuitamente. Así como Dios nos ha concedido el perdon, que no merecíamos, además nosotros mismos debemos liberarnos a todo ofensor de cualquier forma de castigo.

Ciertos diccionarios definen el término de regalo como algo que se da para una amistad, en cariño y apoyo. Al utilizar esta definición, parece lógico regalar cosas solo a quienes amamos, no a quienes nos tratan mal. La Biblia nos ordena evidentemente ofrecer uno de los regalos más enorme es perdonar a quienes nos agreden a diario.

El perdón significa dejar o reclamar un castigo por una ofensa. Y esto, sin condiciones, ya que dejaría de ser una disculpa. Efesios 2:8-9 amplía este criterio al contrastar el regalo de la salvación con las obras. El no pedir perdón es una esclavitud emocional que consume a la mente con el recuerdo de las ofensas, corrompe los sentimientos con la venganza, y llena el corazón de preocupación. Sus tentáculos llegan hasta las profundidades del alma, perjudicando tanto la salud espiritual como la física.

Sin embargo, quien decide ofrecer amor y perdón, está listo para recibir el bienestar de Cristo. Deje que el término de Dios le ayude a colocar sus iras y sus heridas en las manos amorosas de él, y vea luego cómo los pensamientos de venganza se convierten en alabanza, paz y gratitud a Dios

Razonablemente, el regalo del perdón no es algo que tenemos que hacer nosotros. Este regalo está envuelto en el amor de Dios y amarrado con una cinta roja del sacrificio de Cristo en la cruz. Nos los da gratuitamente el Salvador, y nuestra misión es sencillamente darlo a los otros por siempre. Para que un día cuando él venga nos encuentre con un corazón limpio ante su presencia.
