“And it happened, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the City of David, that Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David whirling and playing music; AND SHE DESPISED HIM IN HER HEART.”
1 Chronicles 15:29 (NKJV)

• It is undignified in the sight of some people to do certain things, even when you did it to honour God.

  • David danced and praised God exuberantly, when the Ark of the Covenant that symbolizes the presence of God was brought to the city of David.
  • Michal the wife of David, daughter of King Saul, disliked what David did, the way he praised the LORD without minding anyone.
SHE thought it was undignified, it causes David to look silly and to lose the respect of other people.

“Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, UNCOVERING HIMSELF TODAY IN THE EYES OF THE MAIDS OF HIS SERVANTS, AS ONE OF THE BASE FELLOWS SHAMELESSLY UNCOVERS HIMSELF!” ”
2 Samuel 6:20 (NKJV)

• Some so-called believers think certain things are UNDIGNIFIED, even when you did such a thing to honour God.

  • Michal the daughter of Saul, being a carnal or fleshly rule person, thought what David did, the way he praised God enthusiastically, does not befit the nobility.
SHE being of noble birth or background, thought a king should not have behaved or did as David did—that he lacked decorum.
  • Whoever you are or whatever you are, when you come before God, you should relegate yourself—God detest pride, it is one of the grievous sins in the sight of God (James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5).
  • Irrespective of your status, attainment in the world; when you come before God, you should see yourself as nothing or nobody, because whatever the level of your success, attainment, or achievement, God is the One who has made you to be whatever you are and whoever you are—thus you should not allow pride in your heart.

“For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, NOT TO THINK OF HIMSELF MORE HIGHLY THAN HE OUGHT TO THINK, BUT TO THINK SOBERLY, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.”
Romans 12:3 (NKJV)

  • A believer should not have wrong evaluation of himself or herself.
BELIEVERS should see themselves as God sees them, not by worldly standards.

• You should not consider yourself to be too big to do certain things for God, YOU must be ready and willing to do anything for God:“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up" (James 4:10).

  • David did praise God the way he did without minding whoever looked at him, because he knew without God he is nothing—he was nobody without God.
GOD made him who he is!
  1. “So David said to Michal, “IT WAS BEFORE THE LORD, WHO CHOSE ME INSTEAD OF YOUR FATHER AND ALL HIS HOUSE, TO APPOINT ME RULER OVER THE PEOPLE OF THE LORD, OVER ISRAEL. Therefore I will play music before the LORD.
  2. “AND I WILL BE EVEN MORE UNDIGNIFIED THAN THIS, AND WILL BE HUMBLE IN MY OWN SIGHT. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honour.”
  3. THEREFORE MICHAL THE DAUGHTER OF SAUL HAD NO CHILDREN TO THE DAY OF HER DEATH.”
    2 Samuel 6:21-23 (NKJV)
  • If you think you are somebody without God, you may be permitted to experience what Michal did experience—barrenness.

• Some cannot do menial tasks like cleaning the floor or mowing in the house of God.
SOME cannot wait on others to serve, IN the name of Christ.

  • Nothing should be too low for you to do in order to honour God.
  • If you think your making is through your effort and smartness, you may find yourself down—you may fall: "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall [stumbling]" (Proverbs 16:18).
  • If you are privileged to be born with a sliver spoon in your mouth, you should not look down on others, and you should not despise anything done to honour God or His name
  1. "COMMAND THOSE WHO ARE RICH IN THIS PRESENT AGE NOT TO BE HAUGHTY, NOR TO TRUST IN UNCERTAIN RICHES BUT IN THE LIVING GOD, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.
  2. LET THEM DO GOOD, THAT THEY MAY BE RICH IN GOOD WORKS, READY TO GIVE, WILLING TO SHARE,
  3. storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, THAT THEY MAY LAY HOLD ON ETERNAL LIFE."
    1 Timothy 6:17-19 (NKJV)

• Whatever you are, it is by God’s making, it is a privilege.

  • Thus, thanking God and praising Him should be an integral part of your life.
  • As a believer, everything in your life should give praise to God.
WHATEVER we do as believers should be for His glory, honour, and praise.

• Worship and praise is about revering God for who He is, acknowledging Him in everything—all areas of your life.

  • It is about setting God before you all the time.
YOU have Him in your waking thoughts and sleeping thoughts—that everything about you centres, pivots or hinges, ON Him.
  • Whoever thinks he or she is too big to worship and praise God will become dry, barren and unfruitful.
  • Believers who abides in Him and acknowledges Him; who worship Him and praises Him, are fruitful (John 15:4,5; Psalm 67:5-7).
  1. "Let the people praise You, O God; LET ALL THE PEOPLE PRAISE YOU.
  2. THEN THE EARTH SHALL YIELD HER INCREASE; GOD, OUR OWN GOD, SHALL BLESS US.
  3. God shall bless us, and all the ends of the earth shall fear Him."
    Psalm 67:5-7 (NKJV)

• If you are making it in life, things are working for you, you are prospering in whatever you do, know that God is the reason—He is the key factor for the success you are experiencing.

“But as the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant entered the City of David, Michal, the daughter of Saul, looked down from her window. WHEN SHE SAW KING DAVID SKIPPING ABOUT AND LAUGHING WITH JOY, SHE WAS FILLED WITH CONTEMPT FOR HIM.”
1 Chronicles 15:29 (NLT)

• Take note:

  • Do not despise whatever anyone is doing to honour God or His name.
  • Do not have contempt in your heart towards God, servants of God, the work of God, the people of God, or whatever that has to do with God—His name and His kingdom.

• You will not fail in Jesus’ name.
