Leviticus 6։1-5
And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the Lord, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;
Or have found that which was lost, and lieth concerning it, and sweareth falsely; in any of all these that a man doeth, sinning therein:
Then it shall be, because he hath sinned, and is guilty, that he shall restore that which he took violently away, or the thing which he hath deceitfully gotten, or that which was delivered him to keep, or the lost thing which he found,
Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offering.

Restitution has been overlooked by many Christian today but it is a very important aspect of our spiritual life. First, I would quickly love to explain what restitution means; Restitution simply means returning what is not yours, it means making correcting a mistake or offence done in the past. Perhaps when we were not saved, we did several things and we may have hurt people in diverse ways but now that we are saved by Gods grace, it is our responsibility as Christians to apologize to the people involved and try to make amends where necessary. On the other hand, if we took items or things that do not belong to us, then we ought to return double of what was in our possession. Zacchaeus is our perfect model because he returned things that were unlawfully taken. He returned them in fourfold. Luke 19։8

Restitution is a proof that you are genuinely sorry for your past sins and that you wished you had never committed such an offence. Restitution is not a religious act and it must not be announced, it is usually borne out of regret for the past and a yearning heart to make it right. Exodus 22։7.
If the persons you are to restitute properties or items to says NO, then you are FREE.
As Christians who have been called into gods marvelous light, then we have to understand and abide by this principle. I pray the light of God’s word will shine upon our heart as we meditate upon these words.
