Hello friends and welcome to my participation in this week's edition of the great SEC S16/W1 in this beautiful community. I'm glad to have joined the community and all thanks to @rumaisha for the honor of the invite to join this contest. I do hope you enjoy my article.

The cultural tradition I would be discussing with us is the New Yam Festival, it is a big time of joy and blissful enjoyment. The event is so big that everyone loves to attend the event. It involves the harvesting of the New Yams from the soil and organising the big feast where the biggest if these yams are cooked, roasted or fried and served to the community after the blessing from the king and head of chiefs.

• What Dates Is It Celebrated? In Which Place are They Carried Out

This occasion is celebrated every new year the yams are brought from the soil, really big Yams and cooked in the village square, people of the tribe troop in their numbers from all works of life both at the village and in the diaspora to join in the great celebration. The villages of the Igbo tribe in the south eastern part of Nigeria are unique to this tradition. This is a culture that yearly the yams are cooked and served to the populace.

• Have you ever participated In the organization of these Tradition? You Identify with the Celebration or You Don't Like it

I was a child when I last visited the village for this festival and that was under the supervision of my parents but today I don't really see the fun there, I can always cook my yams anytime I do want and not only on special occasion lol... I a not so into traditional cultures but I love to have to advice others to embrace it if they really do love it.

However, I have never organised in the participation of the event. It is basically the village chiefs and head of the organisation of the village and traditional rulers of various autonomous communities in the village that take care of the organisation of the festival. I respect the tradition but honestly I don not take part in the traditional custom.

Are these tradition used to enhance the values if citizenship and are these Tradition used to promote tourism?

These Tradition enhances the dwelling of unity in the people, we all come together as one to celebrate the meals of the tribe together. It is a time of bliss and great joy to have to share in the festival. It attracts tourist to the town, tasting the delicacies and making them want to stay and have more joyful moments in the tribe. I hope you come to our new yam festival and enjoy our tribe.
