Tell us about one or two cultural traditions from your town, city or country. What dates is it celebrated?

Bangladesh is a predominantly Islamic country but people of different religions live here and each of them prays of their religion and observes their religious festivals. Besides, Bangladesh has many cultural traditions of its own which are celebrated at different times every year. But as a Muslim, I give priority to celebrating religious festivals first.

It's not that the country has its own cultural heritage that I am disrespecting but I try to keep it within the norms of my Islamic religion. I never think that all cultural traditions are necessarily observed through shouting which is prohibited by Islam.

However, I want to tell about the main religious festival of Muslims which carries a lot of significance for us. Our Eid-Ul-Fitr and Eid-Ul-Azha are two major festivals for which all the Muslim Ummah waits. Every year, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the 1st of Shawwal and Eid-ul-Azha on the 10th of Zil-Hajj. It is not only a festival for us, it also brings a lot of happiness and blessings to us Muslims. It deepens the relationship between our Muslim Ummah, the bond of family, the relationship between relatives and neighbors. Each family wears new clothes and cooks good food and creates a beautiful atmosphere through sharing and hospitality.

In which places they are carried out. Have you ever participated in the organization of those traditions?

There are special reasons for celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha which are important for the Muslim Ummah. But we start celebrating our festival from a place which is the Eidgah Maidan where all the Muslims gather together and pray in the open ground. Then we complete all the work according to the religious rules and activities of our two Eids and celebrate our festival with family and relatives with joy.

You identify with that celebration or you don't like it.

Every religious festival of Muslims is very important for us which helps us to spend our life happily and beautifully. Eid is a unique festival for us and yes I love it the most. And every year I look forward to these two Eids. This festival is celebrated with family, friends, relatives and neighbors.

Through this festival not only their own happiness is observed but also creates an equally festive atmosphere for every rich and poor Muslims. Where the rich help the poor in various ways according to Islamic laws so that they too can be happy with their families during this time.It is a balanced distribution that Allah has arranged for each of His servants through the religion of Islam.

Are these traditions used to enhance the values of citizenship?

Of course, Eid is the heart of our celebration and this festival expresses the heritage of our country. Our celebration of this festival increases the unity of our Muslims. Bangladesh is a predominantly Islamic country which makes it clear through our celebration of this festival. Every year billions of people pray under the open sky hoping to gain Allah's pleasure. This festival plays a major role in maintaining brotherhood among themselves.

Are these traditions used to promote tourism?

Everyone is familiar with the festival of Eid because it is celebrated by all Muslims all over the world. It greatly attracts others to know about our festival and to see the innovation of tourist centers during this time. Various activities are involved in it. During this festival all the places are beautifully decorated and all the tourist spots are thrown open which creates a wonderful moment. And so this tradition definitely works as a promotion for tourism.
