FEMICIDE
WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Femicide is a gender-based killing of a woman, child, trans woman, 2-Spirited Person, or gender non-conforming individual where a man has been charged in relation to the death.
The gendered nature of the killing indicates that it is a femicide.
It recognizes the impacts of systemic gendered power dynamics as a factor in the cause and motivation of the killing.
VICTIM AND PERPETRATOR RELATIONSHIP
36.5% of femicides are perpetrated by current or forner intimate partners and 21.25% are perpetrated by a mele family member.
AVERAGE AGE OF FEMICIDE VICTIMS
Femicide victims were most commonly between the age of 18-35 (34.6%) and 36-54 (32.7).
LOCATION OF FEMICIDE
Femicide victims continue to be most commonly killed Inside (67.3%) or outside (9.6%) of a residence, which could belong to the victim, the perpetrator or both.
MYTH:
A femicide only occurs when the perpetrator and victim are in an intimate partner relationship
FACT:
A femicide is ANY intentional killing of women, girls, and other gender diverse folks based on gender, regardless of the relationship between the victim and perpetrator.
This includes being in an intimate relationship or familial relationship with the perpetrator.
It also including knowing the perpetrator eg. Friends, neighbour acquaintance) and not knowing the perpetrators that is a stranger.
FEMICIDES ARE INTERSECTIONAL
Indigenous 2SLGBTQ+ women, girls and gender diverse individuals and women with disabilities are at increased risk and experiance disproportionate levels of gender based violence.

In Spain, femicides have have more than doubled compared to pre-pandemic level

FEMICIDES ARE PREVENTABLE
There are often warming signs present to support early intervention and risk reduction.

Es preocupante observar las estadísticas de estos crímenes, es increíble que haya tanto odio en el mundo y que las autoridades no encuentren el método efectivo para parar estos asesinatos.
Creo firmemente que solo educando desde el hogar podremos cambiar el mundo, en casa tenemos la responsabilidad de criar a los hombres y mujeres de mañana, es nuestra responsabilidad y debemos asumirla, ojalá que todos los padres y los centros de enseñanza puedan entenderlo.
