That is why scientists are so interested in bringing samples from Mars to Earth to be able to analyze them with the sophisticated laboratories that we have here on Earth, the Rovers that are there, after all, are laboratories on wheels, but they are still very small laboratories and they still find things like bubble rock.

This is the latest mystery that Perseverance has found on Mars, I am going to quote the NASA statement so as not to put anything sensational or shocking here, I quote verbatim in the NASA statement they said "Last week the Perseverance scientific team was amazed by a strange rock composed of hundreds of millimeter-sized spheres and now the team is working hard to understand its origin" that is, they are amazed because they do not know how it could have been formed, in fact, what else What amazes them are the little holes it has in those spherical rocks.

Spherical rocks can be formed in many ways, but the little holes literally have them baffled, the photo was taken by Perseverance on March 11 of this year 2025 and the rock is known as San Pablo Bay, they have given it that name, the lower area of ​​the Witch Hazel Hill is located on the edge of the Jezero crater, the photo as you can see shows hundreds of strange millimeter spheres.

The first curiosity is that the rock of the spheres is completely different from the rest of the surrounding rocks. Do you see the rest of the rocks? They are all more or less the same shape, the same color, the rock of the spheres is completely different, so it must have arrived at that place in some way, it was not formed there, it must have been perhaps launched by the impact of an asteroid or perhaps by the action of water or ice in the past, at the moment it is another of the things they are investigating.

They are not the first rounded rocks found. In 2004, Opportunity detected the so-called “Martian blueberries” that were also round rocks, but they were more similar to river rocks and Curiosity has observed spherules similar to these on the Yellow Kid fence in Gale Crater on Mars, very similar to these. Perseverance itself detected textures similar to popcorn in sedimentary rocks, it was also in the Jezero crater, in each of these cases the spherules or round rocks or bubbles were interpreted in each of those previous cases, as concretions, which are characteristics that are formed by the interaction with groundwater that circulates through the pore spaces of the rock, however, not all spherules are formed in this way. formed, for example, by the rapid cooling of drops of molten rock formed in a volcanic eruption or by the condensation of the rock vaporized by the impact of a meteorite, each of these formation mechanisms has different implications in the evolution of these rocks, at the moment NASA is working hard, as they say in the statement, to determine where it was formed and how it was formed.
