The Lake of Mystery

There is a lake in India at 5029 meters high whose name is El Roopkund or Mystery Lake, which contains many human skeletons, which to date is not a conclusive explanation.

The first discovery was made in 1942 in the middle of World War II, so it was not only a scare for the guard who discovered the skeletons, it also put the British authorities occupying India on alert, perhaps those remains could be Japanese soldiers who had attempted an infiltration through the Himalayas to invade India, that doubt was the reason for the first scientific expedition to the place.

Investigators sent by the British found that the human remains were too old to be Japanese soldiers, at which time another theory arose, perhaps they were the unfortunate victims of a military campaign led by Indian soldiers who tried to invade Tibet in 1841 and who were rejected it is known that more than 70 were forced to find a way back through the Himalayas and never returned, although this would only account for a few dozen victims and there was a problem Investigations kept finding more and more bones.

Little by little, the dark magnitude of the place began to be revealed. There were hundreds of skeletons, according to the research sources, the remains could belong to between 600 and 800 humans, so perhaps there was among those remains that of some unfortunate Indian soldier, but what about the remaining hundreds.

Another of the first hypotheses defended what place could be a cemetery where the victims of an epidemic were buried, it is true that there are cultures that practiced burials on the tops of the mountains, they were special places with a powerful religious meaning for them, but the training they were made carefully and with offerings, however, in the case of the lake of skeletons, the bodies were left out in the open, as well as explaining that someone would risk climbing more than 5,000 meters high through dangerous mountains carrying a corpse infected with A virus.
