This was the 49th week of our post promotions for STEM Saturday on the Steem blockchain, and our little community now occupies the top of the /promoted page for the 49th consecutive Saturday. This week, I promoted three Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) posts by two authors.
If you are a STEM enthusiast, please consider following the authors that you'll find in this article and also consider joining our community. If you would like your own post to be considered for STEM Saturday post promotion, please see the guidelines at the end of this post.
Reminder to authors |
---|
The main things that will get a post excluded from consideration for STEM Saturday promotions are: (i) If the post has substantially less than 300 words; (ii) If it is not posted exclusively on the Steem blockchain; (iii) If it shows signs of being plagiarized; and (iv) If it shows signs of being generated by AI. See the end of this post for more on that. There were a couple other posts that I would have promoted this week, if they hadn't been screened out. |

This week's promotions included the following posts (in alphabetical order, by author). Each author has been set as a 5% beneficiary on this post. All posts were passed through three different online plagiarism checks and three different checks for AI detection.

@jorgebgt | The vehicle that will travel to the Moon |
Astrolab Venturi has announced that their Flex robotic vehicle will be going to the moon in 2026. According to this post from @jorgebgt, the vehicle moves at speeds up to 24 KM per hour, and it can carry two astronauts. The vehicle can be operated by onboard controls or also by remote perssonel.

@sarahjay1 | NASA extended the life of the mythic Voyager’s 2 by hacking its electric system |
The two most distant man-made objects in space are the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 space probes. After more than 45 years in space, the two objects are continuing their outward bound missions, but their supplies of power are constantly shrinking. In order to work around this problem on Voyager 1, scientists shutoff some non-essential scientific tools, leaving just 4 systems active. They were planning on doing the same for Voyager 2 during 2024, but now they have changed gears. The scientific systems shutdown is postponed until 2026 because the project team shut off surge-protection systems in order to buy some extra lifetime for the scientific systems.

@sarahjay1 | Scientists used eggshells to create a safe prototype of bone graft |
In general, bone grafts can be performed by making use of four classes of materials: A piece of another bone from the same person; a piece of bone from another person; a piece of bone from an animal; or a synthetic material. In recent work, scientists from The University of Oslo has identified a potential new source of synthetic material. The team, led by Håvard Jostein Haugen created their material from egg shells. By heating the egg shells and combining them with deionized water and sodium hydroxide, the team created a material that could overcome the problems with the existing solutions. Namely, donors can be hard to find, and synthetic materials are expensive.

About STEM Saturday
If members would like to have your own STEM content considered for future promotions, please come join us and start contributing. I don't know how long I'll be continuing the tradition, but while I do, here are the minimum requirements for consideration (subject to change without notice ;-).
- Original, plagiarism-free content
- Minimum word count: currently 300 words, but this may be adjusted.
- The content must not be cross-posted on other web sites or blockchains. Correct use of the #steemexclusive tag is encouraged.
- English language. (sorry, it's the only one I know)
- Because a post leaves /promoted at payout time, posts created shortly before STEM Saturday may be more likely to be chosen than older posts.
All community members are invited to create original and exclusive content that can be considered for future promotions.
Please help grow the science & technology audience on the Steem blockchain by following the Science and Technology on the Social Blockchain Facebook page then liking & sharing our links!
