A team of scientists has identified a celestial body with never-before-seen properties. The object, which is around 4000 light-years away from Earth, discharges a significant quantity of energy every twenty minutes. During these events, which lasted around a minute, the celestial objects indicated became one of the brightest radio waves in the sky.
Some cosmic events are referred to as "transient." The time it takes for these events to emerge varies from seconds to years. Supernova explosions are examples of slow-moving events. A supernova explosion peaks in a matter of days and lasts for months. Pulsars, which are neutron stars that emit radio waves, are one of the swiftly occurring events. Pulsars are radio emitters that generate radio waves at millisecond to second intervals.
Every 20 minutes, the newly detected heavenly objects releases intense radio waves. The discovery is particularly noteworthy because the propagation of radio waves takes roughly a minute. Dr. Natasha Hurley-Walker, the team's leader, claims it's the first time a celestial body has been electrified for nearly a minute.
The features of the new object are reported to mirror those of ultra-long-period magnetars, celestial bodies that have been theoretically predicted but never observed earlier. It is observed that these celestial bodies, which feature slowly revolving neutron stars, are not anticipated to discharge such massive quantities of radio waves. According to Dr. Hurley-Walker, the newly discovered object transfers magnetic energy into radio waves far more efficiently than any other astronomical object previously detected.
