The team of the UEA Martian mission Al Amal has published a global map of the Martian surface in the Mollweide projection.
The image was compiled from more than three thousand color images taken by the EXI (Emirates eXplorer Imager) camera since mid-2021.
The terrain topography data is taken from the data catalog of the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA) instrument of the Mars Global Surveyor orbital probe.
The giant canyon system of the Mariner Valley is visible in the center of the map, areas with volcanoes are visible to the right and left.
The terrain includes Mount Olympus, the highest in the solar system.
Al Amal ("Hope") became the first interplanetary station for the United Arab Emirates.
The ship arrived at Mars in February 2021 and is engaged in research on its atmosphere: it discovered a new type of aurora and showed the hydrogen corona of Mars.
