The Crew Dragon spacecraft that was attached to the ISS as part of the Crew-5 mission successfully splashed down off the coast of Florida.

The second flight in a new series of cross-flights between Roscosmos and NASA has been successfully completed.

After landing, the ship was loaded onto the deck of the Shannon rescue ship.

After the necessary checks, the hatch was opened and the astronauts got out of the capsule.

The cross-flight program between Roscosmos and NASA was resumed last summer.

Initially, six flights were planned: three Russian cosmonauts will fly to the ISS on three Crew Dragons, and three American astronauts on three Soyuz MS spacecraft.

In early March of this year, the program was expanded with another flight: cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin will fly to the station as part of the Crew-8 mission in early 2024.

The first flight under the renewed cross-flight program took place on September 21, 2022, when NASA astronaut Francisco Rubio flew to the ISS on the Soyuz MS-22.

The return flight launched in October 2022, as part of the Crew-5 mission, NASA astronauts Nicole Mann and Josh Kassada, JAXA astronaut Koichi Wakata and cosmonaut Anna Kikina.

THE MISSION
During their stay on the ISS, the crew of Crew-5 conducted about 200 scientific and technological experiments

They also helped to install new iROSA flexible solar panels, and survived the breakdown of the Soyuz MS-22 and the Progress MS-21 cargo spacecraft

They both received leaks in their thermoregulation systems.

In the first case, the docked Crew Dragon served as a lifeboat for the station crew until the arrival of the Soyuz MS-23 rescue ship to the ISS.

The undocking of the Crew Dragon from the Harmony hub module was originally scheduled for March 10, 2022.

However, it took place a day later due to bad weather in seven zones for the ship to splash down in the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Finally, the night of March 11, the Crew Dragon successfully splashed down by parachute off the coast of Florida, and the SpaceX rescue ship will retrieve it from the water.
