The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has taken images of Uranus, its rings, and the planet's major moons.

In the picture, Uranus itself has a bright north polar region and clouds.

The ice giant Uranus stands out among the planets of the solar system in that its axis of rotation is strongly inclined relative to the plane of the planet's orbit.

To date, only the Voyager 2 spacecraft has visited it in 1986; all other observations of the planet are carried out only from a long distance.

The Webb observed Uranus on February 6, in the near infrared using the NIRCam camera.

In the images obtained, in addition to the planet, 11 of the 13 rings are visible, two of which are dimmer than the others and contain a lot of dust.

In addition, six of the largest moons of Uranus out of 27 known today are visible.

The northern polar region of the planet is visible, in the center of which there is an increase in brightness, previously hardly noticeable when observed by other telescopes.

It is currently late spring in the northern hemisphere of Uranus, perhaps the brightness of the polar region increases with the increase in its illumination by the Sun.

Two bright clouds are also visible, which may be associated with storms.
