The Progress MS-21 cargo spacecraft successfully undocked from the International Space Station - ISS.

Earlier, the ship had an accident in the thermoregulation system, similar to the recent accident on the manned Soyuz MS-22 docked to the ISS.

It was assumed that after undocking, Progress would issue a braking impulse and begin to deorbit.

However, Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, reported that the deorbit was postponed.

The accident on the Progress MS-21 occurred on February 11, 2023, by which time the ship had been on the ISS for almost four months.

Subsequent analysis of the situation showed that a leak had formed in the tubes of the ship's thermoregulation system, due to which all the coolant evaporated into space.

The causes of the accident are still unknown, it can be either a micrometeorite hit or a fragment of space debris, or a manufacturing defect.

On February 14, the outer part of the ship was examined using the Canadarm manipulator, but the resulting images were not published.

UNDOCKED
In the early morning of February 18, 2023, Progress MS-21, loaded with debris, successfully undocked from the station.

After undocking, it was supposed to survey the alleged leak site to determine if there was a hole from the impact of a micrometeorite or a fragment of space debris.

The Soyuz capsule underwent a similar process.

Based on the results of the survey, it was decided to postpone the deorbiting of the ship until February 19, so that specialists would have time to analyze the data obtained.

Under the new schedule, the unburned Progress fragments will fall into the South Pacific at 06:57 (Moscow time).

As I have written before, there is a rescue mission ready to fly to the ISS: the ship Soyuz MS-23.
