Calotropis procera

It is known as Silk Cotton; it is a bushy species, it has grayish leaves with a heart-shaped base and beautiful white flowers with purple tones. Its inflated fruits with seeds covered with long white hairs, favor its dispersion and rapid colonization.

It is a plant native to tropical climates, where temperatures do not drop for a long time. It is appreciated for its beautiful flowering and medicinal properties. But, even though it was introduced and naturalized in Venezuela, it is considered an invasive plant.

It grows in warm environments, such as pastures, vacant lots, roadsides and roads. Currently, there is a strong invasion of this plant in the dunes of the Medanos de Coro National Park (Falcon State, Venezuela).
