I dont know exactly, these types of grasses are very common where I live. It is a type of grass, almost like bamboo the shoot is like the thickness of a pencil, and if i remember correctly hollow, I think it helps to protect the beaches from eroding too far back as it kind of helps to combat the winds blowing the sands off the beach.
