Hello dear colleagues, I'm Reggie, a Nigerian based artist and writer.
I'd like to share my recent artwork with y'all and share a few tips about it with y'all.
This is an artwork I posted in my introductory post on this platform some weeks ago. I just joined this community and I'd like to interact with like-minds and learn more from y'all
Here we go!!!
Materials: needlepoint paper, HB pencil (for sketch) and black Bic pen
I began by sketching out my reference with a HB pencil. Normally, I'd use grid lines but I was going after perfection on this piece, I wanted to improve my freehand sketch game.
I used the cross hatching technique to create layers for the hair section, show my dark tones and light tones, then I scribbled all over it to create the realistic hair texture.
After doing what I thought was a good job on the hair, I got pretty nervous about continuing the artwork because I was scared of making any mistakes that would make me abandon the artwork.
But then, isn't the mistakes the beauty of the artwork?!🥴.. so I kept cross hatching to achieve the skin texture.
Even after that, I still felt like I was doing something wrong, so I scribbled alittle bit on the skin and it turned out fine.
Started working on the scars of my reference with tiny and thick scribbles.
Overtime, I've gotten used to the habit of saving the eyes for last. I just love how it brings out the realism of the artwork when it's applied
Thanks for viewing.
I look forward to working and learning with y'all.
That's very beautiful sketch 😍
