The sandbox tree, also known as possumwood and jabillo, is an evergreen tree of the spurge family of Euphorbiaceae. It’s native to tropical regions of North & South America including the Amazon rainforest which is also present in parts of Tanzania, where it is considered an invasive species. It has been beneficial in many ethnomedicinal applications as a purgative, emetic, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and the treatment of leprosy.
