It’s a species of cactus in the family of Cactaceae. It’s native to the Peruvian Andes. Usually the name subulata comes from the Latin subulate, for awl-like, referring to the shape of the rudimentary leaves. It’s also known by its most common names as Eve's pin & Eve's needle.
