Couple of old buildings in my town

I took these pictures with the idea of using them for one contest or other, but nothing came of it, so I might as well just publish them as a regular post. These two buildings are located on the second street starting from the sea. They are, I believe, the two oldest buildings still in use in the town, very well built buildings. This town was founded in 1879 as a fishing village, but as things would have it, US businessmen, interested in bananas chose the place to be their headquarters in the country at the ends of the 19th century. Of course this made the small village boom, there was an influx of people, from the rest of Honduras, Central America and a lot of European immigrants. Mostly Italians and Eastern Europeans. This boom made the construction of these buildings possible. First I will show you what was the Customs building, inaugurated in 1917, and now, owned by the city is in not so good shape and is used as a warehouse and some as office space. There has been talk of making it into a museum, but this is getting old.

It still looks OK, but it sure could use some maintenance,

The other building was inaugurated in 1913, it housed the second private bank founded in Honduras. Today this bank is the largest or maybe second largest bank in the country, and they still use this building as an agency. It is a beautiful building, on the inside, the work space, there is a lot of marble in it, well I think it is marble, I am no expert. But it is really well kept and you actually feel like you enter another time when you go in there.

I think both buildings are nice, and I feel good about them still being around. They have been through a lot of hurricanes, a couple of earthquakes, plus the rounds of instability we have had in this country. But they are still here.
