Fast food has become part of our modern diet. Unfortunately, this convenience comes at a cost to our health. Fast food is often high in calories, saturated fat, and salt, which can cause a variety of negative health effects. Regular consumption of fast food can increase your risk of obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems. Fast food is also often low in essential nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals, which can lead to malnutrition. To prevent these negative health effects, it's important to limit fast food consumption and choose healthier foods whenever possible.
There are three main issues related to the nature of fast food, its distribution and consumption. First, the economics of fast food: fast food is the cheapest food on the market in terms of calories per dollar. 1 This is a significant advantage for many people, especially those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. For many people, fast food is the only type of food they can afford to eat three times a day. A solution to this problem might involve government regulation: the price of healthier food could be subsidized, at the same time, higher tax rates could be imposed on fast food manufacturers.
Second, lobbying is a major problem for the food industry in general. Lobbying has stopped any initiative to regulate the fast food industry. One of the ideas expressed in the video may be the only way to deal with lobbying: initiate sweeping changes to electoral laws to reduce corporate influence over politicians.1 For example, a law on super PACs may be important in resolving lobbying issues.
Finally, there is the problem of people's education and ignorance. According to an Al Jazeera report, there are large areas of "food desert" in the US, districts that have no supply of fresh food.1 People in such places are not in the habit of using fresh food for cooking, and are accustomed to consuming mainly fast or processed food. Furthermore, school education does not fully cover healthy eating; so that children do not have information about the advantages and disadvantages of various types of food. This problem can be solved at different levels; first, healthy lifestyle courses could be added to the school curriculum; Second, the government can launch a massive media campaign on healthy eating to educate the public.
