Today, I’ll take you along to experience a day on Phuket island, Thailand during the rainy season.

Thailand is currently in its rainy season, and here in Phuket, it rains almost every day. However, the rain isn’t all bad—it also nourishes the trees and flowers, making everything lush and beautiful.

Last Friday, my husband and I started our day at the Khao Rang Viewpoint, a hilltop spot in Phuket Town. It’s close to our son’s school, where we needed to pick him up a few hours later. The viewpoint offers stunning views of both the town and the sea, and it’s also known for its playful monkeys. The weather was lovely—not too hot—thanks to the constant breeze.

This area is known for its peaceful ambiance, blending nature with scenic urban views. The well-maintained surroundings include cafes and gardens, enhancing the visitor experience. Additionally, the viewpoint holds historical significance with links to Phuket’s heritage, including a nearby memorial pavilion dedicated to the influential Na Ranong family, who have contributed greatly to the region’s development since the 19th century.

ช่วงนี้ประเทศไทยอยู่ในช่วงฤดูฝน ตอนนี้ที่ภูเก็ตฝนตกเกือบจะทุกวัน ฝนตกก็ช่วยให้ต้นไม้ ดอกไม้ต่างๆ สวยงาม วันศุกร์ที่ผ่านมาฉันและสามีได้ไปเที่ยวจุดชมวิวในเมืองภูเก็ต ซึ่งเป็นจุดชมวิวที่สามารถมองเห็นเมืองภูเก็ตได้อย่างชัดเจน ทั้งอาคารบ้านเรือน และทะเล เป็นวิวมุมสูงที่สวยงามมากๆ อีกทั้งอากาศดีเพราะไม่ร้อนเนื่องจากมีลมพัดแรงอยู่ตลอดเวลา

With the abundance of forests, many monkeys live at Khao Rang Viewpoint. Most of them approach tourists to ask for food, and there are signs warning visitors about potential monkey bites or snatching.

Visitors are also advised not to feed the monkeys outside the designated feeding areas, as a specific spot is provided for that purpose.

This is the viewing pavilion, known as the "Hall of Fame 100 Years", which is an architectural gem. It features a unique 3-tiered, octagonal dome design, giving it a distinct appearance. It serves not only as an aesthetic landmark but also provides a spacious viewing platform that extends outward, offering visitors panoramic 180-degree views of Phuket (the bird's eye view). From this vantage point, you can see the island’s lush greenery, Phuket Town, and even distant landmarks like the Big Buddha and Chalong Bay.

During the rainy season, fewer tourists visit, making it ideal for those who prefer quieter, less crowded places.

I recommend visiting on a weekday for the best experience—you’ll likely have the viewpoint all to yourself. No matter which angle you choose to capture, you won’t have to worry about anyone getting in the way of your perfect shot.

However, one downside is that the sky may not be as vibrant as it is during the hot season. Additionally, the weather can be unpredictable—clear skies can quickly turn into sudden downpours, and these unexpected showers are quite frequent.

ช่วงฤดูฝนจะไม่ค่อยมีนักท่องเที่ยว เหมาะสำหรับผู้ที่ไม่ชอบสถานที่ที่ผู้คนพลุกพล่าน ฉันแนะนำว่ามาเที่ยววันธรรมดาได้จะดีที่สุด เพราะจุดชมวิวจะเป็นของคุณคนเดียว คุณจะถ่ายรูปมุมไหนรับรองไม่มีใครมาบังเลนส์กล้องของคุณแน่นอน แต่ข้อเสียคือท้องฟ้าอาจจะไม่สวยงามเท่ากับช่วงฤดูร้อน ฝนจะตกตอนไหนไม่รู้เอาแน่เอานอนไม่ได้ เพราะบางครั้งเห็นท้องฟ้าสดใสอยู่ๆ ฝนก็ตกลงมาเฉย เหตุการณ์แบบนี้เกิดขึ้นได้บ่อยมาก มุมนี้จะมองเห็นอาคารบ้านเรือนต่างๆ และมองเห็นวิวทะเลอีกด้วย อากาศดีมากๆ ไม่ร้อน มีลมพัดตลอดเวลา สามารถสูดโอนโซนได้เต็มปอด

From this corner, you can enjoy views of various buildings and the sea beyond. The weather is pleasant and not too hot, with a refreshing breeze blowing constantly. Take a deep breath, fill your lungs with fresh air, and embrace the moment.

There are two well-known restaurants at Khao Rang Viewpoint: Tunk-Ka Café and Khao Rang Breeze Restaurant. Both offer panoramic views of Phuket Town, making them perfect for a scenic meal. After filling our lungs with fresh air, it was time for lunch. We chose one of the restaurants next to the viewpoint, a familiar spot where we’ve dined many times before.

บนเขารังมีร้านอาหารอยู่ 2 ร้าน และร้านอาหารทั้ง 2 ร้าน สามารถชมวิวเมืองภูเก็ตได้เช่นกัน หลังจากที่สูดอากาศบริสุทธิ์เต็มปอดแล้วก็ถึงเวลาอาหารเที่ยง พวกเราจึงเลือกร้านอาหารที่อยู่ติดกับจุดชมวิว ร้านนี้พวกเราเคยมารับประทานหลายครั้งแล้ว ที่ร้านอาหารแห่งนี้นอกจากจะสร้างร้านให้ยื่นออกไปด้านนอกแล้ว ยังสร้างตาข่ายยื่นออกไปอีกลูกค้าสามารถไปนั่งถ่ายรูปได้ เหมือนได้สัมผัสกับธรรมชาติแบบใกล้ชิดเลย

In this restaurant, not only has the seating area been extended outward, but nets have also been added to extend it even further. These nets allow customers to sit, relax, and take photos, creating the feeling of being immersed in nature.

I ordered a pineapple smoothie at the restaurant, made by blending only the fresh pineapple flesh. The smoothie is then served right back inside the hollowed-out pineapple shell, making it both refreshingly cool and naturally sweet!

This dish is Salmon Head Tom Yum, a bold and flavorful soup that is both intensely spicy and incredibly delicious. Tom Yum is one of Thailand's most iconic dishes, renowned for its aromatic blend of lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal, chili, and fish sauce. These ingredients come together to create a unique balance of spicy, sour, salty, and savory flavors. Traditionally, this soup is made with shrimp (Tom Yum Goong), but variations like Salmon Head Tom Yum bring a delightful twist by using the flavorful head of the fish.

We Thais love eating spicy food because it’s deeply ingrained in our culture and culinary traditions. Spicy dishes are not only enjoyable but are also thought to have health benefits—many believe that spicy foods improve digestion and boost metabolism. Additionally, in Thailand’s hot and humid climate, eating spicy food makes us sweat, which has a cooling effect on the body. This balance of intense heat, aroma, and flavor in dishes like Tom Yum reflects our love for vibrant and bold cuisine that brings satisfaction with every bite

After enjoying a satisfying meal, we continued our walk to take in the natural beauty of the area. A staircase leads down to the lower part of the viewpoint, with both sides of the path lined with beautifully arranged trees and lush greenery, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere.

หลังจากที่ทานข้าวอิ่มแล้ว พวกเราก็เดินไปชมความงามของธรรมชาติกันต่อ บริเวณนี้มีบันไดเพื่อเดินลงไปด้านล่างสองข้างทางเต็มไปด้วยต้นไม้ที่ปลูกประดับไว้อย่างสวยงาม

We arrived at the second well-known restaurant: Tunk-Ka Café. Initially, we had planned to dine here, but upon arrival, we decided to go to the other restaurant we’ve enjoyed many times before.

The restaurant we chose is located on the other side of the viewpoint and is also very popular at Khao Rang Viewpoint. This spot offers a clear view of the sea, which I had previously seen featured in a review on a Facebook page. Although it was a bit disappointing not to try Tunk-Ka Café this time, it’s okay—we’ve decided to visit it next time.

พวกเราเดินทางถึงบริเวณนี้มันคือร้านอาหาร ซึ่งตอนแรกตั้งใจจะมาทานร้านนี้ แต่พอมาถึงเขารังพวกเราก็เลือกร้านอาหารที่เคยมาทานหลายครั้ง ร้านอาหารร้านนี้จะอยู่อีกฝั่ง เป็นร้านอาหารที่มีชื่อเสียงมากบนเขารัง มุมนี้สามารถมองเห็นวิวทะเลได้อย่างชัดเจนซึ่งฉันเคยเห็นในรีวิวในเพจเฟสบุ๊ค ซึ่งเป็นที่น่าเสียดายมาก แต่ไม่เป็นไรพวกเราจึงวางแผนไว้คราวหน้าจะลองมากินอาหารร้านนี้

After enjoying the bird’s-eye view of Phuket Town, we headed to pick up our son from school. Once we had him with us, we drove towards Café del Mar in Kamala, a newly opened venue that has quickly become popular among foreign tourists.

As soon as we arrived at Café del Mar, a massive black cloud rolled in, and the wind picked up. The staff informed us that all the indoor tables were fully booked. While there were still some empty tables by the sea, sitting outside wasn’t an option as heavy rain was imminent.

If you plan to visit, it’s essential to make a reservation in advance. With the rain starting to pour, we quickly returned to the car and debated our next move—should we head home or find another place to eat?

Driving further north, the rain suddenly stopped, and the sun peeked out, greeting us shyly. We decided to revisit The Beach Bar Crafted, located near Bang Tao Beach in Laypang. It’s a place we had visited a few months ago and were happy to return to, as the evening atmosphere there is simply delightful.

It was a great idea, and we were not disappointed! Although the sunset during the rainy season isn’t as breathtaking as in the hot season, it has its own charm and peaceful allure.

Over the past few weeks, strong winds and powerful waves have affected all the beaches in Phuket, making swimming dangerous. Red flags are displayed everywhere along the coast to warn visitors to stay out of the water. As a result, many outdoor activities have shifted away from the sea—one popular option being horseback riding along the beach.

Here, you can rent horses with a guide to accompany you, ensuring that even first-time riders can enjoy the experience. The ride along the shore offers a unique way to take in the scenery, with the cost set at 2,000 baht per hour.

หลังจากที่ชมวิวมุมสูงในเมืองภูเก็ตแล้ว พวกเราก็ขับรถไปรับลูกชายที่โรงเรียน เพราะเป็นเวลาเลิกเรียน แล้วก็ขับรถมุ่งหน้าไปยังบาร์แห่งหนึ่งในกมลา ซึ่งเป็นบาร์ที่เปิดใหม่และมีชื่อเสียงในหมู่นักท่องเที่ยวชาวต่างชาติ พอถึงบาร์ก้อนเมฆสีดำใหญ่ก็เคลื่อนตัวมาอย่างรวดเร็ว ลมพัดแรง พนักงานจึงแจ้งว่าโต๊ะในร่มถูกจองเต็มหมดแล้ว เหลือโต๊ะที่ว่างริมทะเล แต่ฝนกำลังจะตกไม่สามารถนั่งได้ ถ้าจะมาเที่ยวที่นี่ต้องจองไว้ก่อน ทำให้พวกเราต้องกลับไปที่รถและคิดว่าจะกลับบ้านหรือไปจะทานข้าวที่ไหนดี เพราะฝนเริ่มตกหนัก แต่ขับรถมาได้สักพักฝนหยุดตกแล้วก็มีแสงแดด พวกเราจึงตัดสินใจไปนั่งบาร์ริมชายหาดแถวบางเทา ซึ่งเป็นบาร์ที่พวกเราเคยไปมาแล้วเมื่อหลายเดือนก่อน และกลับมาอีกครั้งเพราะบรรยากาศยามเย็นที่นี่ดีมากๆ

และที่นี่ก็ไม่ทำให้พวกเราผิดหวัง แม้บรรยากาศยามเย็นช่วงพระอาทิตย์ตกจะไม่สวยเท่าฤดูร้อน แต่มันก็สวยงามและมีเสน่ห์ในแบบของมัน ชายหาดทุกชายหาดในภูเก็ตมีคลื่นและลมแรงไม่สามารถลงเล่นน้ำได้ นักท่องเที่ยวก็ทำกิจกรรมบนชายหาด ที่นี่มีม้าให้เช่าด้วย จะมีเจ้าหน้าที่คอยจูงม้าให้นักท่องเที่ยวนั่ง และเดินชมบรรยากาศยามเย็นริมชายหาด ราคา 2,000 บาท ต่อ 1 ชั่วโมง

During this period, Phuket experiences the rainy monsoon season, with rain falling almost daily. As a result, there aren’t many tourists, leaving plenty of empty tables for us to choose from. The weather is pleasantly cool, with strong winds blowing throughout the day.

ช่วงนี้ที่ภูเก็ตเป็นช่วงมรสุมฝนตกเกือบทุกวัน นักท่องเที่ยวจึงไม่มากนัก ทำให้มีโต๊ะว่างเหลือให้พวกเราเลือกมากมาย อากาศเย็นสบายลมพัดแรงมากๆ

We didn’t expect to see the sunset, as the sky was overcast. But to our surprise, this beach offered a stunning view—the large sun slowly descending, just about to disappear behind the horizon.

พวกเราไม่คิดว่าจะได้เห็นพระอาทิตย์ตกด้วยซ้ำเพราะท้องฟ้าไม่สดใส แต่ที่หาดแห่งนี้ก็ทำให้พวกเราเซอร์ไพร้มากๆ พระอาทิตย์ดวงโตกำลังจะลาลับขอบฟ้า

The sky began to transform, as if an artist had splashed vibrant colors across a vast canvas. Shades of gold blended seamlessly into orange, followed by streaks of purple, blue, and pink, all beautifully interwoven in a stunning gradient.

จากนั้นท้องฟ้าก็เริ่มเปลี่ยนสี ราวกับจิตรกรได้สาดสีต่างๆ บนท้องฟ้าแล้วไล่เฉดสีบนท้องฟ้าจากสีทองเป็นสีส้ม เป็นสีม่วง หรือแม้แต่สีฟ้า สีชมพู สลับไปมาได้อย่างสวยงาม

It was truly a wonderful Friday during the rainy season, and we returned home feeling completely satisfied with our day!
