It’s 5 PM when, after a good half-hour of negotiation, my husband is finally convinced to head out. We hop into the car and make our way to Layan Beach. To be honest, it’s not very far — just about a 15-minute drive from home — but missing the sunset is simply not an option. 🌅🚗

Once we arrive, it’s easy enough to find a parking spot under the shady trees along the beach. The convenience makes it even more enjoyable to start soaking in the serene atmosphere right away. 🌴🅿️

Around this time of year, the sunset graces us at approximately 6:45 PM, which is remarkably consistent year-round in Phuket.

And just like the sunset, the tropical heat is a constant companion — though we’ve learned to embrace it with a laugh. 🌴🔥

If you’ve heard of Layan Beach, you might not recognize the name immediately, as most people refer to this stretch of sand as part of Bang Tao Beach — one of Phuket’s most famous and expansive beaches. 🌴🌊

Bang Tao Beach stretches a remarkable 8 kilometers along the northwest coast of Phuket, offering a mix of luxury resorts, quieter local spots, and natural beauty. However, this peaceful paradise hides a fascinating history.

In the past, this area was an important tin mining hub. Tin mining was one of the island’s main industries for centuries, with Phuket being one of the most significant tin-producing areas in Thailand. This brought prosperity to the region, and Bang Tao served as a vital trading center during its mining days. As tin mining dwindled in the late 20th century, the land was transformed, paving the way for tourism.

Today, Bang Tao and Layan Beach are lined with luxury hotels, resorts, and small, family-run businesses that make it a perfect place for relaxation. Despite its development, parts of the area remain quiet, offering a serene escape from Phuket's more bustling spots like Patong.
