But we did not only walk along the beach. We also took a stroll around in town. The most peculiar house we saw is this. It is completely covered by shells from the sea. When you look more closely, you will not only see many different shells, but also see that they have been painted in different colors. Once it was a privat house, but today it is a museum which exhibits among other things, bottle ship. The house is covered with tens of thousands of shells, conch shells and snail shells. The story goes that it was a fisherman named Alfred Pedersen who started this project in 1949. He had promised his wife that no one else would have a house like theirs. He must have been very patient. The house was not fully decorated until 1974!
It wasn't just his wife he wanted to please by creating Thyborøn's finest and most special house. He wanted to make sure that the house was so special that people would travel from far away to look at it. I assume that people who come to Thyborøn because of the remains after WWII also will check out town and go to see the house. Just like we did. I therefore assume that Alfred Pedersen was right. People come from far away.
