Hello everyone. We started our journey at Parque de Pericós the largest park in Gijón. This park is located in the Siás district and I set out to explore this area. I wanted to start here because it is truly the largest park in Gijón. It offers places to relax, exercise areas, playgrounds for children and spaces to walk dogs. Also right next to the park, there is a cemetery that was the largest in Gijón until the end of the 20th century. This cemetery was established in the 10th century and is still in use today. It is close to the city center, which makes it quite interesting. You can see old gravestones and urns in the cemetery.
Then I moved to a more pleasant area, heading towards the living beings. There were birds and people exercising. Especially on sunny days people come here to relax and some even bring blankets to sunbathe. There is also an area above, which makes this park quite popular. In the park there is a children's playground and many benches and tables scattered around. From here you can see both the city and the ocean. Although it is a bit windier, it is a great place to rest.
Next I moved to the Siás district. This area used to be far from the center of Gijón, but over time it merged with the city and now about 16000 people live here. The area is quite large, with most of it covered by parks. I walked along Alegriya Street and started my exploration. The housing structures in this area are dense and diverse. There are buildings from the 70s, new constructions and even single-story houses.
As for apartment prices some properties are currently priced between 85000 and 90000 Euros. However, it is important to note that these prices may change later, as new offers may arise or some properties might be sold. Therefore the information I am providing reflects current prices.
The Siás district stretches from north to south and is a bit farther from the center. The distance to the city center is just over a kilometer. So it’s not too far but not very close either. However, it is easy to reach, as public transport is available here. The housing in the area is mostly old and there can be parking issues, especially as buildings with underground parking are less common. Some areas do have parking spaces, but in general, parking can be challenging.
In the Siás district there are schools, supermarkets and sports complexes. In addition to those near the park, there is also a swimming pool within the district. Between the wide streets and narrow alleys, you will find banks, shops and other services. In terms of education there are many schools here. These schools are quite important for the area and hold a significant place for the residents. Such schools have become an integral part of life in the district.
The Siás district is a well-established area and not far from the center, making it a very livable place. I hope this information helps you get a better impression of the area. See you next time.
