Hello everyone. Last year we visited Dénia, a holiday resort in the province of Alicante. First we explored the city, starting with its historic parts. We entered the old town by passing through the ancient walls. Then, we headed towards the beach.

Dénia is close to Alicante and not too far from Valencia. Approximately 45.000 people live here and tourism is the main industry. We wandered through the narrow streets of the old town and made our way to the castle. Dénia flourished during the Arab rule, leaving behind carved doors that reflect that era. We began exploring the castle and its surroundings, enjoying the view of Dénia from above.

We strolled along a shaded street, which was refreshing in the summer heat thanks to the trees. Later, we moved towards the sea. There’s a port here where ferries, including those headed to Ibiza, depart.

From Alicante you can easily access other holiday towns like Calpe. Dénia is considered to have one of the best climates in Spain. The locals believe so much in this that they’ve even built a monument to honor it. January is the coldest month here, with an average temperature of about 12 degrees, while the annual average is around 22 degrees.

We headed to the city center, where there are various cafés, including ones serving Thai cuisine. The town hall and a church are also nearby. The streets with cafés were a bit crowded since it was lunchtime. We also visited the church interior before continuing on our way.

We discovered a tunnel under the old castle. After passing through it, we emerged on the other side and made our way to the beach. It’s not far from the old town, but there are more modern buildings here, along with children’s playgrounds.

The sandy beach here is beautiful. It was a bit crowded but very enjoyable. I decided to take a swim. The water was quite warm. It was so warm that I can’t say exactly how hot, but it was very relaxing. Actually, it might have been better if it were a bit cooler. The beach is wide, long and fairly busy. This is one of Dénia’s beautiful sandy beaches with fantastic water.

The houses here are beachfront and very close to the city center. With that I bid farewell to Dénia. It was an interesting journey through the city and the beach. Wishing you all a great day. See you next time.
