Hello everyone. In today’s post I want to talk about my trip to MonteAgudo de Las Vicarias, a lesser-known village in the province of Soria. This place is among the most beautiful villages in Spain. Let me start by saying that the capital of Soria is less than 70 km from here, while Madrid is about 200 km away. We began our journey by exploring the village’s main tourist spots and enjoying its stunning views. This village is included in the list of Spain’s most beautiful villages, known for its historical charm.

We visited the village during the warmer months and the daytime temperatures were quite high. In winter however, it can get quite cold, often dropping below zero. The climate here is more continental. Located in central Spain, it experiences very hot summers and quite cold winters, sometimes with snow.

As we started exploring the village, the chestnut trees in the area immediately caught our attention. From there, we moved to the historical part of the village, which is surrounded by walls. When we arrived, it was siesta time, so there weren’t many people around. The population here is only about 170, so it’s not crowded.

We reached one of the gatehouses of the wall. Inside, we saw a statue of the Virgin Mary and a plaque marking that we were within the city walls. Although the village has the title of a "city" I refer to it as a village due to its small population, but it is undeniably rich in history. Its narrow streets, old houses and delightful aromas make it a very charming place.

As we wandered through these streets, we saw typical houses. Let me share a bit about real estate prices. Grape cultivation is common in Soria and wine is made here. House prices are quite affordable, around 20.000 to 30.000 euros. We even saw a house for sale at 40.000 euros. Places like this are perfect for retirees seeking peace and quiet.

The water in Soria is excellent and worth drinking. Summers here are very hot. When we visited, the temperature was around 30 degrees. All the streets are paved in a uniform style and the houses look quite similar. Birds also seem to build their nests here during summer.

The villagers mostly work in agriculture since there are many fields in the area. Despite being listed among Spain’s most beautiful villages, it doesn’t attract many tourists, probably because it’s not well-known. Nevertheless, some visitors do come to explore.

There is a rather large cathedral in the village, capable of accommodating more people than the current population. And there’s a castle symbolizing the village’s history. This castle dating back to the 20th century, has a rich history. Unfortunately, the entrance was closed when we visited, likely due to the siesta. Around the castle, we saw many storks.

Since the castle was closed, we continued exploring the surroundings. A small stream flows here, although only a portion is visible. The flat lands nearby are beautiful, with many storks flying around. Due to the castle’s age, some structural supports have been added. There’s also an old cemetery which, though somewhat abandoned, still has some graves and crosses. Beyond the cemetery, there’s a small garden with aquatic plants growing beside it.

I also spoke with a local young man who described this place as peaceful, beautiful and tranquil. The village even has a school providing education for the first six years. There are also some shops, cafes and bars. Despite its size, the village offers almost everything you might need. There’s even an outdoor swimming pool, which is a great spot in the summer. If you visit, don’t forget to bring your swimwear. Additionally, there are charging stations for electric vehicles. This village is incredibly clean, lovely and well-organized.
