Hello everyone. One of the most fascinating places I visited this year was Alcalá del Chivert municipality. We first explored the beach and then wandered through the town. This small town has recently become a popular holiday destination. It also features green spaces and parks.
We started by visiting one of the beaches in the Alcalá municipality. It’s a small and cozy beach and since we visited on a Sunday it was quite crowded. However, it might be much quieter during the week.
Afterward we headed to the center of Alcalá, which is located a bit inland. In the past many settlements were built slightly away from the coast. During the Middle Ages an important event occurred here: pirates attacked Alcalá, but the town was successfully defended. Back then towns were typically constructed further from the shore due to threats like natural disasters and pirate raids.
When we arrived there was a local festival taking place and people were celebrating something. Preparations for a bull run had been made in the area. These kinds of spaces are designed to allow bulls to run safely while spectators can watch from elevated, secure locations. There is also a train station nearby, from where you can travel to Castellón or Barcelona.
We passed by the tower and then arrived at a small green area with a children’s playground. The total population of Alcalá del Chivert is approximately 7.000, with around 5.000 people living in the municipal center. From there we headed toward the church and the main square, walking through narrow streets. In small towns the afternoon is typically a time for rest and relaxation, so the streets are often quiet during these hours. If you’re wondering, “Where is everyone?”, this is when locals are usually resting, especially since it was Sunday and midday when we visited.
The area features buildings dating back to 1736 and 1766, which have of course, undergone restorations. As a regional center, Alcalá del Chivert offers everything needed for daily life: schools, healthcare facilities and it’s only 40 kilometers from Castellón. The streets branch off in various directions, lined with small houses.
If you’re interested in current property prices, you can check websites like Idealista. Older buildings often sell for restoration, with prices starting around 30.000 Euros. If you’re looking for something in better condition, prices typically start at 50.000 Euros and go higher. These prices change regularly, so it’s best to check online for the latest updates.
As we strolled through Alcalá del Chivert’s peaceful surroundings, we saw locals feeding pigeons. A local cat also came out to see what was happening. The area is surrounded by old houses, closely packed together, creating a charming atmosphere. The square hosts events, with chairs set up for gatherings. There’s also a health center nearby, another children’s playground and a school in the area. And there’s a swimming pool here as well.
After taking another round through the town, light rain began to fall. We explored a lovely beach and the town center of Alcalá del Chivert. I wish you all a great day.
