Facebook's platforms, including the online messaging service WhatsApp and the Instagram photo-sharing app, were disrupted for thousands of users on Friday, according to Downdetector.com.
The site showed that there have been more than 1.2 million incidents of people reporting problems with Instagram, and more than 23,000 users have posted about WhatsApp issues on their websites.
Downdetector tracks outages by compiling status reports from a series of sources, including errors that the user sends on their platform.
A spokesman for "Facebook" said that the company was able to fix the defect that obstructed access to its services.
The company offered an apology to its employees for the holidays, which lasted about an hour.
