Around August 2021, I and another climbing community carried out a climbing expedition to Mount Geureudong to commemorate the 76th Indonesian Independence Day in Bener Meriah Regency, I and other climbing friends made preparations for this expedition for approximately 1 month. A team of 48 people. This trip takes 7 days of climbing.
Mount Geureudong which is located in Bener Meriah Regency is adjacent to Mount Burni Telong, where Mount Burni Telong is more widely known by the public than Mount Geuredong. Mount Geureudong has a height of 2,885m above sea level. On this hiking trail, elephant footprints and elephant dung are often found. Unfortunately, the team did not find an elephant on Mount Geureudong until the end of the climb.
On the third day of climbing, after finishing breakfast, the team and I immediately rushed to continue climbing to reach the savanna because on this third day their target was to meet the savanna on Mount Geureudong. a wide brown plain that is assumed to be a savanna so on this third day, they will confirm the truth of the plain which is assumed to be a savanna.
After passing a slightly uphill road and the thick tropical forest of Aceh, finally my climbing friends and I saw light from the ends of the lush trees. After exploring, my climbing friends and I arrived at the savanna of Mount Gereudong. The feeling of tiredness and fatigue disappeared instantly when they saw how vast the expanse of the savanna was in front of them.
This Mount Geureudong Savanna has a very large area, surrounded by several water sources and swamps. From this savanna, I can see the peak of Mount Geureudong. In addition, there are still elephant tracks and elephant dung. In fact, I also found a place used by the elephant herd to rest in this savanna because the grass is wide open. I decided to stay one night there, enjoy the beauty of the savanna and explore the area around the savanna. I and the other climbing team were very happy because we were able to get one of the goals of climbing Mount Geureudong, which is to see the savanna.
