The story of Lake Toba and the journey to enjoy its natural beauty

this is a portrait of my journey with my high school friend during school farewell. Precisely in 2019, which was to visit and enjoy the beauty of Lake Toba

Lake Toba, the name may be familiar to the ears of travelers who like to enjoy the beauty of nature. no wonder if every day many local and foreign tourists who come to visit to enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Toba.

Lake Toba is a large natural lake in Indonesia located in the caldera of Mount Supervolcano. According to Wikipedia, this lake has a length of 100 kilometers, a width of 30 kilometers, and a depth of 505 meters. This lake is located in the middle of the northern part of Sumatra island with a surface height of about 900 meters.

At first, Lake Toba started with a young man named "Toba", an orphan who every day works as a farmer and looks for fish in the river.

One day, while fishing in the river, Toba caught a big fish, but because the scales of this fish looked shiny and beautiful, Toba decided to take it home and keep it.

After being caught, the golden fish transformed into a beautiful woman. Toba fell in love with the beauty of the princess. Even Toba decided to marry him even though the princess gave a condition, namely that Toba had to keep his origin a secret from anyone.

The years passed and the two of them established a harmonious domestic relationship and were blessed with a son who was named Samosir.

But one day their son, Samosir, was asked by his mother to deliver food to Toba in the fields. Unfortunately in the middle of the trip Samosir felt hungry and ate the lunch that was supposed to be for Toba.

After eating it, Samosir continued on his way and conveyed to his father the empty lunch. Angered by Samosir's actions, Toba spontaneously got angry and shouted that Samosir was a child of a fish.

Suddenly the sky turned dark and it rained heavily for days. As a result of this rain, a large lake appeared which we now know as Lake Toba, and the island in the middle of the lake was named Samosir Island. That's what the tour guide on our ship said.

At that time we started departing from Medan around 9 PM and arrived in Parapat at 5 PM. By driving 2 cars, there are not many who go, so you only need to use a private car, you don't need to rent a bus.

After that we prayed in one of the mosques while resting after a long journey. And after finishing breakfast, we headed back to Tomok using a ship that always brings tourists around enjoying the natural beauty of Lake Toba before docking at Tomok port.

Tomok is one of the shopping centers for souvenirs from Lake Toba. But there are also many traditional Batak performances that are displayed such as the Sigale-gale statue dance, which is a wooden statue that is moved by people dancing to the rhythm of Toba Batak music. Initially this Sigale-gale dance was a ritual to summon dead spirits, but now it is used as a traditional preservation by the surrounding community.

After watching the Sigale-gale show, then we shopped for souvenirs to take home such as clothes, bracelets, hats and others.

After we were satisfied with our shopping, we moved back to Parapat using the ship that brought us earlier.

Arriving in Parapat, after finishing eating and bathing in the lake, we rushed back to Medan to go home because the weather was getting cloudy, as a result at 11 PM we arrived in Medan safely and happily because we were satisfied with our trip.

That's a short story about Lake Toba and our journey in enjoying its natural beauty. Hopefully someday I can come back to visit and tour longer in Lake Toba.
