This weekend is wonderful weekend for me.I went to Anuradapura.Sanghamitta, the founder of a Buddhist nuns' order, carried a cutting from the 'tree of enlightenment,' the Buddha's fig tree, to this hallowed city in the third century B.C. After an invasion in 993, Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital that existed for 1,300 years, was abandoned. The magnificent site, with its palaces, monasteries, and monuments, has been hidden for many years in impenetrable jungle and is now open to the public.

Anuradhapura was founded in the 5th century BCE and served as the Sinhalese capital of Sri Lanka from the 4th century BCE to the 11th century CE, when the city was forced to relocate due to invasions from South India. The city was abandoned and overgrown by forest until it was rediscovered by the British in the 19th century and turned into a Buddhist pilgrimage site. The city's Renaissance began in earnest in the 1870s. The modern city, which was mostly relocated in the mid-20th century to preserve the historic capital's position, is a significant road junction in northern Sri Lanka and sits alongside a railway line.
