A movement is underway to protest the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Doctors' agitation and 24-hour strike is going on in hospitals of different states of the country. This movement is going on like the ninth day on Saturday.

Earlier, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), the highest body of doctors in India, has called for a 24-hour strike in all hospitals of the country from this morning. The strike has been going on in various hospitals of the country including Kolkata since morning.
The doctors have demanded that the people involved in the murder of the female doctor should be immediately arrested and brought under punishment. The strike has affected reputed hospitals in various states of India including Kolkata.
The protestors demanded the punishment of Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and the recently resigned Principal of RG Kar Hospital, Sandeep Ghosh, in connection with the rape and murder of a woman doctor.
The CBI had on Friday summoned the principal for questioning after the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Hospital. However, he did not appear at the CBI office in Kolkata. His lawyer Vishwarup Bhattacharya claimed that the principal could not go to the CBI office due to lack of security.Protesters are protesting in front of his residence. So he asked for security to go to CBI office.
CBI officials then took the principal off the road. CBI detectives interrogated him there from yesterday afternoon. He was released late at night and told that the CBI will interrogate him again this morning. The principal appeared at the CBI office this morning. Even today he is being interrogated by CBI detectives. The principal came out of the CBI office last night and told reporters that he is cooperating with the CBI in the investigation.
Doctors of Homeopathic Medical Association of India and Dental Association of India have also joined the strike of IMA today. As tomorrow Sunday is a holiday, this strike will affect various hospitals and medical centers across India. The strike will end at 6 am tomorrow. Only emergency services are exempted during the strike.
