A good Samaritan is a person who is concerned, caring and always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. A person who shows kindness and empathy, showing genuine concern for others' struggles. With their generous hearts and selfless actions, a Good Samaritan makes the world a better place for people around them
Helping people is one satisfying thing I love doing. I feel fulfilled and happy whenever I help people in need because I have given them hope and put a smile on their faces. However, I helped a child recently in my church who was in need. I helped her get a cloth which she needed to wear with other children in the church for a program. She came to me and told me her parents could not afford it, and she wanted to wear the same uniform as others and not look different. Meaning I should help buy hers.
I felt compassionate towards her the way she spoke to me about it and asked her how much it was. She told me, and I promised to get it for her. The next Sunday, when I came to church, I paid for her own clothes, and she was so happy that she went to call her mother to thank me. I was happy inside of me seeing the smiles on the faces of the mother and child.
I could relate to how a child might feel on a special day, seeing other children in matching uniforms while she stands out due to lack of funds to get hers.
I felt emotional when she told me her story and I truly admired her openness in sharing her problem and her boldness in coming to make that request to me.
The cloth cost only N2500 that is 7.5 Steem, which was relatively inexpensive but due to financial challenges was difficult for the child's family to afford at that time
Helping the needy is one of my passions I find out that when I’m unable to offer help to someone in need, it often leaves me feeling uneasy and pained. On the other hand, when I can lend a hand, I experience a deep sense of fulfilment, Joy and satisfaction. You also enrich yourself when you help others. The Bible says whoever is kind to lend to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them; offering help encourages love and connection.
For example, the small act of help I offered that child at my church has led to a meaningful connection and relationship with her mother, who now always says hello or checks in on me when she hasn’t seen me for a while. Showing how even small gestures of kindness can create lasting relationships.
