Hello good friends,I hope we are all preparing ahead of the Christmas festivities? But my own concern is about us being good Samaritans,we should try as much as possible to help out in any way we can. This is because that smallest act of kindness can make a big difference in someone's life. Special thanks to @saintkelvin17 for organizing an interesting contest like this.
I best define a good Samaritan as someone who selflessly extends a helping hand to those in need without thinking of getting anything in return. The embody the spirit of empathy, generosity and kindness. When we talk about good Samaritans, they are the ones who usually lends a listening ear to a friend in need or offer a comforting presence to a total stranger in distress.
I personally see good Samaritans as everyday heroes who are making a difference in their communities, they donate to charitable causes. They are the thread that weave our society together, thereby reminding us that we are all connected and our actions do have a profound impact on those around us.
I remember it like it was yesterday, a situation where I helped a single mother who was struggling to make ends meet. This lady in question just lost her job and was facing eviction from her apartment. It happened that I met her through a local organization that provides assistance to families in need. I offered to help her with grocery shopping and errands.
Through my assistance, she got connected with some local resources that can provide her with financial assistance. You needed to see the relief on her face and the gratitude in her eyes,it was so rewarding. I watched her get back on her feet, find a new job and she started going for classes in other to improve her skills. And guess what,it was an incredible feeling knowing that I have played a part (whether small or big) in helping turn her life around.
Let's just say that I have been in tough times before and I know what it feels like. I helped that single mother because I know how it feels to have the weight of the world on your shoulders. I have been fortunate enough to have a support system that have helped me through tough times which I want to reciprocate. So I just thought that if I can make a difference in just one person's life,it will be worth it.
As for what it costs me,well I would say that it didn't cost me that much to be honest. What I did was just to spend sometime helping her out with errands and stuff and that's just it. I didn't have to break the bank or anything. But believe, what I got in return was a sense of purpose and fulfilment which is hard to put a price on. And seeing her get back on her feet and thrive was all the reward I needed.
I don't give expecting something in return but helping that single mom was one of the most rewarding experiences I have heard. Like, it's funny because I was expecting to just give, but I ended up receiving so much more. For example, it gave me a sense of purpose and fulfilment. I felt like I was making a difference in someone's life, which is an incredible feeling.
It also made me to realize how much I take for granted,it gave me a Newfound appreciation for the blessings in my life as it also brought me closer to my root and reminded me that we are all in this together and most especially,I gained a new friend which was the best reward of all.
I am inviting @manuelhooks, @sriiza, @alee and @fahmiam to participate.1
